The Division Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Director will be responsible for the EHS function for the business division. This position will develop and implement the division's EHS strategy, which aligns with TekniPlex's global EHS strategy. This position will provide leadership by managing TekniPlex’s EHS programs, policies, and procedures to improve environmental, health, safety, and sustainability performance. This position will coordinate and lead the EHS function to meet or exceed company business objectives, working closely with the Corporate Senior Director, EHS, and Divisional business leadership.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide directions and support for all operations locations within the business division.
- Provide directions and support for all division EHS activities.
- Oversee all EHS programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies.
- Develop & implement a multi-year strategic plan for the division that can be communicated enterprise-wide.
- Develop and deliver EHS plans and procedures for maintaining high standards to ensure all functions conform to local, state, and federal laws.
- Lead the tracking and assessment of EHS requirements and metrics; advise business leaders about company impacts.
- Select, coach, and develop designated EHS champions, setting objectives that align with company strategy to inspire and motivate.
- Develop and administer divisional safety recognition programs, including evaluating their effectiveness in positively changing employee behavior.
- Oversee the division-wide incident investigation and root cause analysis process.
- Oversee the preparation and submittal of related agency regulatory reports.
- Partner with Corporate EHS to research, develop, and implement new policies, practices, procedures, or guidelines.
- Develop and oversee the divisional internal site environmental, health, and safety audit process.
- Represent the company internally and externally as the subject matter expert in all EHS-related matters.
- Organize and provide leadership to safety teams throughout the organization.
- Partner with the company's Treasury Department and Senior Director, EHS in all aspects of insurance programs, brokers, and carriers, and ensure proper coverage for assumed risk.
- Coordinate, monitor, and maintain claims handling strategy, working with insurance carriers/brokers, affected employees, and vendors, and communicating results with stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Expertise in Global Environmental, Occupational Health, and Safety Management Systems
- Management-level experience with Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis
- Management-level experience with Risk Assessment,
- Management-level experience in Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals
- Management-level experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety auditing
- Management-level experience, Behavior-Based Safety
- Management-level experience with the implementation of global safety standards
- Management-level experience with air, water, and waste permitting and management of major and minor sources
- Previous experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated effective interaction and influence with regulatory agencies and senior business leaders
- Strong ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines with a focus on results
- Ability to present to a variety of audiences
- Ability to communicate with a variety of audiences with diverse backgrounds
- Ability to drive change through influence and collaboration
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- BCSP Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS).
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
- Six Sigma Green Belt
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience with environmental and safety responsibilities
- 10+ years in an environmental and/or safety leadership role
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- 40-60% travel required
- International travel required
- Manufacturing environment (non-climate-controlled)
