Staff Software Engineer - Social Gaming

We are looking for a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to help shape the technical foundation of a fast-growing product within the social gaming industry. This role is ideal for someone passionate about building scalable backend systems, solving complex engineering challenges, and driving technical excellence in a high-performance environment.

You will play a key role in designing and implementing the architecture behind real-time tournament systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, security, and outstanding performance for a global user base.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, maintainable, observable, and high-performing application architecture.

• Develop clean, efficient, and well-documented code following engineering best practices.

• Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, and technical standards across the engineering team.

• Identify and optimize system performance bottlenecks.

• Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver impactful features.

• Ensure application security and implement safeguards against vulnerabilities.

• Apply modern software engineering principles including Domain-Driven Design (DDD), SOLID, and GRASP.

Requirements

• Proven experience building and delivering large-scale production systems.

• Strong understanding of Domain-Driven Design, API-first architecture, and software design patterns.

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript (React/Next.js) or another backend language, ideally Node.js or PHP.

• Experience with Pub/Sub systems, WebSockets, and Server-Sent Events (SSE).

• Experience working with scalable backend and platform architecture.

• Product engineering mindset with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and deliver features end-to-end.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience with MySQL.

• Experience building white-label products.

• Background in real-time systems or gaming-related platforms.
