The Role:
As a Senior DevOps Engineer with a strong Windows and Chef background, you will support and modernize large-scale Windows environments through automation and configuration management. This role has a heavy emphasis on Chef cookbook development for Windows systems and PowerShell-based automation. You will work closely with client engineering teams to reduce a significant backlog of infrastructure and configuration work. This is a hands-on role suited for someone comfortable operating deep in Windows automation and configuration frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain automation for Windows server environments.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Chef cookbooks with a strong focus on Windows nodes.
- Use PowerShell scripting to automate system configuration, patching, and operational tasks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve configuration drift and deployment issues in Windows environments.
- Partner with client teams to prioritize and execute against a large DevOps backlog.
- Improve reliability, consistency, and repeatability of Windows infrastructure.
- Document automation patterns, standards, and operational runbooks.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience in DevOps, Systems Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering roles.
- Strong hands-on experience managing Windows Server environments.
- Deep experience with Chef, specifically Chef cookbook development for Windows.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting skills for automation and system management.
- Solid understanding of Windows services, registry, networking, and security concepts.
- Experience working through large backlogs in complex enterprise environments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with distributed client teams.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with other configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines supporting infrastructure automation.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
- Experience supporting hybrid or enterprise Windows environments.
- Background in infrastructure modernization initiatives.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- Relevant certifications are a plus but not required.
