General information

In order to support its Mediation Program, swisspeace is looking for a:

Civil Society Support Consultant – (up to 50%, Syria-based)

to assist with its Syria peacebuilding projects

Contractual period: May 2025 (or by agreement) to 31 December 2025. Specifics may be discussed with the team in due time, including the possibility of prolongation.

Your tasks

  • Support the conceptualization, organization and implementation of peacebuilding activities with Syrian civil society organizations and community-based actors.
  • Support the outreach and engagement with relevant Syrian civil society interlocutors and potential partners.
  • Accompany the Syria team at swisspeace in the administrative coordination and financial management of project activities including through liaising with selected service providers in Syria and/or abroad.
  • Develop and conduct peacebuildingtrainings for practitioners as well as stakeholders in conflict-affected contexts.
  • Contribute to swisspeace’s analysis on context developments of the Syrian context, including understanding of the Syrian civil society scene.
  • Act as interface to selected swisspeace partners and participate in relevant events in coordination with the Syria team.
  • Participate in planning events of program and other team meetings.

Your profile

  • Passionate about the peacebuilding field and familiar with its key concepts.
  • Politically astute and conscious, and able to represent swisspeace towards different stakeholders.
  • Degree in political science, law or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in project management, coordination and implementation in the Syrian context, preferably in the peacebuilding field. Research experience is a plus.
  • Willing and able to engage different spectra of Syrian society inside Syria and abroad.
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Arabic.
  • Based in Syria and able to legally work there and travel within Syria as needed.
