About the Role

We're looking for a frontend software engineer who thinks in components and cares deeply about creating reusable, scalable UI systems. You’ll work closely with design and backend teams to build high-quality, accessible user interfaces using modern frontend tools.

What You’ll Do
  • Build and maintain frontend applications using React - we use v18 with Vite and SSR
  • Develop and grow a shared component library with SCSS-in-JS using MUI
  • Apply component-driven development practices to ensure consistency and reusability
  • Prioritize accessibility and performance in everything you build
  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to turn ideas into polished, production ready interfaces
  • Work with APIs to bring dynamic data into the frontend
  • Occasionally interact with SQL databases or backend services
What You’ll Bring
  • 3-5 years of experience building React applications
  • Familiarity with Vite, Next.js or similar meta-frameworks
  • Strong understanding of Tailwind CSS and utility-first styling
  • Experience creating and maintaining design systems or component libraries
  • A component-first mindset and a keen eye for detail and reusability
  • Awareness of accessibility standards and inclusive design
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional team
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools for automating workflows - release early, release often, driving delivery of value
  • Debug fundamentals - monitoring, logging, profiling
  • Web architecture essentials (REST, caching, queues, events, etc) - we want our technology to be well architected, easy to maintain and scalable
  • Bonus: experience with SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, or other backend integration work
  • Bonus: SSR experience

The journey of Service Management Group (SMG) began in 1991, born from a simple yet powerful idea within a Kansas City ad agency called Barkley. Founded by Andy and Bill Fromm, the company was established on the principles of 'The Service Profit Chain', a revolutionary concept co-developed by one of SMG's co-founders, Leonard Schlesinger, which links employee satisfaction directly to customer loyalty and, ultimately, financial success.
