About Potomac Conservancy, Inc.
We're a team of clean water advocates who have been working since 1993 to protect the Potomac River - the source of drinking water for five million people in our region. What started as a small group concerned about development in the Potomac Gorge has grown into a movement of over 35,000 supporters. We work directly with family farmers to protect streamside forests, mobilize thousands of volunteers for cleanup and restoration efforts, and advocate for stronger water protection laws at every level of government.
Our approach is pretty straightforward: we combine on-the-ground conservation work with policy advocacy and community engagement. We've protected more than 15,000 acres of land, conserved 105 miles of streams, and removed nearly 30,000 pounds of trash from our waterways. But we're not just about the numbers - we're about building a movement where everyone who lives near the Potomac can feel connected to it and invested in its future. Whether it's helping a landowner preserve their family farm, organizing a community cleanup, or testifying at a state legislature hearing, we're in this for the long haul to make sure the Potomac is swimmable and fishable for everyone.
