Pinnacle

Pinnacle began as a GP-led response to the need for stronger primary care support. What started as a local effort to help general practices has developed into a not-for-profit group of primary care organisations working across Te Manawa Taki in Aotearoa New Zealand. Pinnacle now supports more than 473,000 enrolled patients across 92 practices in Waikato, Taranaki, Tairāwhiti and Lakes, while also delivering clinical programmes, operating locality offices and providing primary health organisation management services.

The group works alongside general practices, healthcare providers, iwi, community organisations and other health partners to improve access, equity and health outcomes. Its activities include strengthening community care, building capability across the primary care workforce, advocating for general practice, supporting Māori and Pasifika health, and encouraging innovation. Pinnacle Incorporated is the GP membership organisation and parent entity, while related organisations handle governance, clinical programme delivery, practice ownership and support, practice-management systems, investments and charitable funding. Through the Pinnacle Foundation, surplus income from its profit-for-purpose entities is reinvested in practical initiatives that improve access, workforce development and innovation across the region.
