Role Overview

The Production Designer (PD) will be responsible for creating engaging, visually appealing, and high-quality content across multiple verticals. This role involves producing books and related materials based on specific briefs while maintaining Packt’s quality standards. The PD must have a keen eye for detail, strong design skills, and a drive to produce outstanding content. The ideal candidate will be able to work efficiently under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.

What You Will Do

• Evaluate the quality of images provided by authors and provide feedback to Content Engineers.
• Redraw or modify images to meet print and digital distribution requirements.
• Design book mockups and full covers for Packt and external channels.
• Lay out book chapters using InDesign and ensure consistency in quality and formatting.
• Ensure timely submission of books to the Distribution team for printing and digital publishing.
• Coordinate with Technical Editors, Content Engineers, and Distribution Executives to streamline production workflows.
• Prepare and share post-production files with the Content Distribution Team.
• Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures, quality standards, and brand guidelines.
• Handle urgent and important ad hoc production tasks as required.
• Create marketing assets such as banners, posters, and flyers based on briefs.
• Maintain Packt’s brand consistency across all design outputs.
• Escalate critical issues to the Production Lead in a timely manner.

Must-have Skills:

• Strong understanding of creative design principles and brand alignment.
• Proficiency in design and photo-editing software such as InDesign, Illustrator, CorelDraw, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Distiller, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience with MS Office 365 for documentation and collaboration.
• Exceptional creativity and innovative design approach.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• High accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage projects efficiently and meet deadlines.

Good-to-have Skills:

• Knowledge of the latest design trends in publishing.
• Experience with risk management in design projects.
• Passion for learning new design techniques and software.
• Willingness to accept feedback and iterate on designs.
• Flexibility to work on marketing collateral as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in any field, preferably technical.
• Proficiency in tools such as InDesign, Illustrator, CorelDraw, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Distiller, Adobe Acrobat, and MS Office 365.

Salary Range - INR 30,000 – 70,000 fixed pay per month (skills and/or experience dependent)
