ORCID

ORCID is a global, not-for-profit organization dedicated to connecting research and researchers through unique, persistent identifiers. We provide the ORCID iD, a free 16-digit identifier that researchers can register and use throughout their careers to ensure their work is properly attributed and connected across disciplines, organizations, and time.

Our mission is to enable transparent, trustworthy connections between researchers and their contributions by providing this unique, persistent identifier. We serve as a registry of unique persistent identifiers for researchers, a hub that connects researchers with their professional activities and contributions, and a global community that enables researchers to share their data with other individuals, organizations, and systems.

ORCID is sustained by fees from our member organizations, which include research organizations, publishers, funders, professional associations, and other stakeholders in the research ecosystem. We offer both Basic and Premium membership levels, with additional benefits including API access, virtual orientations, and dedicated support. Our organization is governed by a Board of Directors and supported by various community groups including consortia, funders, and researcher advisory councils.
