Description:

The proper functioning of the energy market is a key pillar of the energy transition. Our client plays a central role in facilitating this market, notably by managing several so-called ancillary services essential to grid operation (such as the balancing capacity market, balancing energy market, and more).

Within the Market Energy Solutions (MES) department different activities linked to these ancillary services are organized, such as the conceptual evolutions of the products, the operation of the services and the monitoring/surveillance of these markets. To support these activities, our client is looking to strengthen the MES team by hiring a Market Analyst. Based within the Market Monitoring and Data team, the Market Analyst is responsible for monitoring the functioning and integrity of the market.

The role involves developing a quantitative view of market dynamics and participant behavior by analyzing available data, identifying trends and patterns, and assessing internal and external studies. These insights contribute to a better understanding of the market, its market players, support its ongoing improvement and the build-up of a strong market intelligence.

The Market Analyst we are seeking will focus on the following key responsibilities:

Designing and implementing Power BI dashboards to analyze specific situations in the balancing markets and the intraday and day-ahead energy markets, supporting market surveillance activities. This requires a solid understanding of our client’s products, balancing mechanisms, market participant behaviour, and the fundamental drivers of market outcomes. These dashboards will help to increase market intelligence within our client and to ensure the integrity of the markets.

Analyzing ongoing and upcoming market evolutions, and developing & enhancing reporting tools, in particular:

In 2025, our client is going through a major development in the balancing market (connecting to the European MARI platform), which will allow the activation of balancing energy in other countries. This shift will require in-depth analysis and reporting to understand its implications, and the Market Analyst will play a key role in supporting this effort through data analysis and structured reporting. A go-live related to congestion management improvement occurred last year. The Market Analyst will be responsible for developing and maintaining a dedicated Power BI dashboard to closely monitor the impact of this go-live on the congestion market. Analyzing the participation of storage units in the balancing markets and intraday energy market, with a particular focus on how they manage their technical storage constraints.

Requirements:

  • A master's degree in engineering or a master’s degree in economics with an interest in working in a technical environment or equivalent through experience.

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience an excellent analytical mind.

  • Proven experience in Python, PowerBI and data analytics.

  • A keen interest in the energy sector and understand the global workings of the energy market.

  • You have the interest to develop a deep knowledge on its functioning.

  • Focus on details without losing sight of the overall picture and deliver flawless work.

  • You are result-oriented. learn quickly, with a proactive and positive mindset.

  • Fluent in Dutch or French and you can communicate fluently in English both orally and in writing.

NRB's story began in 1986 with the establishment of the GI (Groupement Informatique), an ICT entity shared by OMOB (now Ethias) and three Liege utility companies: CILE, ALG, and ALE (the latter two now part of Nethys). The primary goal was to consolidate ICT resources and expertise. Just a year later, in 1987, these four shareholders, along with CCB (Crédit Communal de Belgique), Coditel, and Electrabel, founded the limited liability company NRB. Initially, NRB's focus was on serving its own shareholders, aiming to reduce escalating ICT costs and leverage the skills of the new company's employees.

A significant development occurred in 1989 when the GIEI (Groupement d’Intérêt Economique et Informatique) entrusted NRB with managing the ICT resources for the French Community of Belgium and the Walloon Region. Recognizing the need for modernization and security, NRB undertook substantial upgrades and expansions to its facilities starting in 1995. This period marked a crucial phase in NRB's growth, laying the groundwork for future expansion. By 2005, NRB broadened its horizons, extending its range of services to include parastatal and private institutions. This expansion was supported by the addition of new buildings in Herstal in 2007 and the inauguration of a third data center in 2010. The same year, NRB acquired a 51% stake in the ADINFO holding from Dexia (now Belfius), which included three ICT companies active in the local public sector: Cevi, Adehis, and Logins. In 2011, NRB further solidified its infrastructure by partnering with Wallonia Data Center (WDC) to install a new disaster recovery center, enabling them to offer a complete architecture with data centers located over 30 km apart. This year also saw NRB become the first and only certified SAP Hosting Partner in Belgium. The NRB Group continued its strategic acquisitions, with Stesud joining in 2013 and subsequently merging with Adehis to form Civadis. Today, the NRB Group stands as a major player in the Belgian ICT sector, with a European focus, a consolidated turnover of €638.3 million in 2024, and over 3,670 employees.
