NeGD

The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) stands as a cornerstone in India's digital transformation journey. Established in 2009 by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), NeGD was created with a visionary mandate: to drive the implementation of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) and support the Digital India Corporation. What began as a strategic initiative has evolved into the engine room of India's digital governance, playing a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the government and its citizens through technology.

NeGD's mission extends far beyond mere administrative support; it is the architect behind some of the world's largest digital public platforms. The division is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and managing transformative initiatives such as DigiLocker, which provides paperless document access to millions, and UMANG, a unified mobile app for government services. Furthermore, NeGD spearheads capacity building, ensuring that government officials across the nation are equipped with the skills to navigate the digital era. By fostering innovation through projects like OpenForge and API Setu, NeGD is not just implementing policy but actively shaping the future of governance.

In addition to its technical prowess, NeGD acts as a strategic advisor to Central Ministries and State Governments, guiding them in the intricate process of project appraisal, strategic planning, and technology management. The division's work in awareness and communication has been instrumental in driving the adoption of digital services at the grassroots level.
