National Highways have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join our Lighting and Electrical team in the Midlands, to be based from either of our Birmingham or Nottingham office with a mix of on-site / office / home working.

Please be advised that you will be expected to travel to the Nottingham office for approximately 40% of your working hours.

The team is responsible for the asset management of over 43,000 street lighting and electrical assets within the region. This includes everything including feeder pillars with the incoming public electricity supply, lighting columns and lanterns, illuminated signs and bollards and subways via a private cable network.

Within this role, you will be developing feasibility studies and preliminary designs for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.

You will need to have a full driving licence, with no more than 3 points, to be considered for this position and during employment as you will be required to drive as part of your role.

Activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.

Identify and prepare briefs to support delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets.

Develop technical briefs provided to external design services contractor for improvement and renewals work.

Design of highway renewals and maintenance schemes.

Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.

About you

  • Degree or HND, HNC, in relevant discipline or Electrical Testing and Inspection Qualifications and or appropriate experience, or equivalent
  • Preferable experience in highway lighting or similar experience
  • Experience of management, inspection and design of electrical renewal schemes
  • Proven ability to report on the identification and assessment of asset data and operational needs, delivering actionable insights to support strategic planning
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and addressing health and safety requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
