👋 About Us

NALA is building Payments for the Next Billion. Faster, smarter, and fairer transfers for everyone. Since 2022, we've grown our business 120x, grown the team from 9 to 150+, raised $50M+ from top-tier investors, and were named to the Forbes Fintech 50 in 2025.

We operate two core products:

  • NALA, our consumer app makes cross-border payments cheaper, faster and more reliable for the global diaspora. Allowing users to send money from the UK, US and EU to Africa and Asia.
  • Rafiki, our B2B payments infrastructure, is powering global payments.

Our team includes alumni from Wise, Stripe, Monzo, Revolut, and CashApp — operators who’ve scaled world-class products. We act with urgency, think deeply, and put our customers first always.

At NALA, this isn’t just a job. It’s ownership, impact, and the chance to change global payments forever.

Join us in building Payments for the Next Billion.

🙌 Your Mission

NALA is expanding its footprint in the EU, and France is our priority "Send" market. Your mission is to own the ground game. You will be the face of NALA for the Francophone diaspora, driving user acquisition through a mix of high-energy community engagement, strategic local partnerships, and localised digital performance.

This is not a "headquarters" role. You will be in the communities, at the events, and on the streets where our customers live and work.

🎯 Your Responsibilities

  • Field Execution: Spend 60%+ of your time "on the ground." This means organising pop-up events at community hubs and building a network of local "Agents of Growth."
  • Local Partnerships: Identify and sign partnerships with local French-African businesses, grocery stores, and community leaders who act as trust gateways.
  • Hyper-Localised Growth: Tailor our messaging to the specific cultural nuances of the Senegalese, Ivorian, and Cameroonian diaspora in France.
  • Feedback Loop: Be the eyes and ears for our Product team. Why is a user in Paris struggling with the app compared to a user in London? You find out and fix it.
  • Manage to Targets: Achieve key performance indicators, specifically target user numbers, while operating within CAC constraints.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Monitor, analyse, and report on all growth metrics, providing data-driven insights to the P&L Lead.

🔥 Must-have requirements

  • 4+ years of "Guerilla" Growth: You’ve scaled a consumer product by actually talking to users. Fintech or high-velocity logistics experience is a huge plus.
  • Native French & Fluent English: You can switch between a boardroom in London and a community meeting in Seine-Saint-Denis without missing a beat.
  • High Mobility: You are excited about travelling across France and occasionally to West Africa to align the "Send" and "Receive" sides of the corridor.
  • Analytical Ownership: You own the P&L for France. You know your CAC, your retention rates, and exactly which zip codes are driving the most volume

✅ Success in the role looks like

30-Day Metrics

  • Acquire 300+ new users through digital or offline channels, with CAC aligned to corridor payback thresholds.
  • Launch 2 performance-driven campaigns (1 digital, 1 offline) with clear attribution and conversion tracking.
  • Activate 2–3 local ambassadors or partners with a defined user acquisition target (e.g., 50+ users/month per ambassador).

60-Day Metrics

  • Deliver 1,000+ cumulative new users across all acquisition efforts, maintaining CAC within acceptable corridor benchmarks.
  • Scale 1 proven acquisition channel to consistently deliver ≥100 new users/month, with payback period aligned to LTV:CAC targets.
  • Establish a working growth loop (e.g., referral or ambassador program) that contributes ≥25% of monthly user acquisition and shows potential for efficient scale.

90-Day Metrics

  • Drive 2,500+ total users acquired via owned efforts, with CAC improving month-over-month and a stable LTV:CAC ratio.
  • Own at least 1 fully operational growth loop, delivering weekly user acquisition with minimal incremental spend (e.g., scalable WhatsApp funnel or event-to-referral engine).
  • Generate data-backed growth insights that drive a product, positioning, or GTM iteration specific to the corridor.

➡️ Interview Process

You will need to first submit your application through our ATS Workable. If successful, you will be selected for our interview process, which has the following stages:

  • [30 Mins] - Talent Screen
    • An initial conversation to align on your background, trajectory, and why NALA’s mission to build for the "Next Billion" resonates with you.
  • [1 Hour] - Technical Problem Solving
    • A deep-dive session with the Hiring Manager centered on a live, role-specific growth challenge.
    • We don't care about generic theory; we want to see how you navigate the fragmented payment landscapes and liquidity constraints inherent to African markets.
  • [1 Hour] - The Bar Raiser
    • A final-stage interview with Nico, COO & Co-Founder
    • This is a high-level assessment of your leadership potential, cultural alignment with our "Customer First" philosophy, and your ability to scale within a company that has grown 120x since 2022.

NALA's journey began in 2017, founded by Benjamin Fernandes, with a vision to simplify financial transactions for the African continent. Initially, the company focused on domestic payments within Tanzania, quickly amassing a significant user base of 250,000 customers within its first year. Recognizing the broader challenges and opportunities in the African financial landscape, NALA pivoted its strategy to address the complexities of cross-border payments. This evolution was driven by a deep understanding of the hurdles faced by the African diaspora in sending money home and by businesses seeking to operate seamlessly across the continent.

The company's mission crystallized into 'building payments for the next billion,' aiming to increase economic opportunities globally, with a strong emphasis on Africa and its diaspora. This ambition led to the development of a consumer-facing mobile application for international money transfers, designed to offer faster, more affordable, and transparent services compared to traditional remittance channels. NALA's app allows users in the UK, US, and EU to send money to several African countries. Alongside its consumer product, NALA embarked on creating 'Rafiki,' a B2B platform providing payment rails and infrastructure for businesses, fintechs, and financial institutions to facilitate payments within and into Africa. This dual approach underscores NALA's commitment to building a comprehensive financial ecosystem. The company established its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, a burgeoning hub for innovation and talent in Africa, to better serve its operational needs and tap into the local ecosystem. NALA has successfully raised significant funding, including a $10 million seed round in 2022 and a $40 million Series A round in 2024, from prominent investors like Accel, Y Combinator, Acrew Capital, and DST Global, fueling its expansion and product development. Today, NALA serves over 500,000 customers and continues to innovate, with plans to expand its services beyond Africa and further enhance its payment infrastructure.
