What you will do
- Reviews patient information, assigns CPT/ICD-10-CM codes and Modifiers for coding purposes. Codes simple procedures such as Radiology, EKGs, Echoes and other minor procedures. May code Evaluation and Management Services (E/M).
- Discusses documentation of inconsistencies with providers. Works with clinicians to ensure complete and accurate information appears in patients’ medical records.
- May research denied claims and process appropriately and assist with patient accounts, as needed.
- Performs other job duties as assigned or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience Requirements
- No prior work experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledgeable of medical and clinical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology.
- Knowledgeable of CPT/ICD-10-CM and Modifiers.
- Proficient skills in computer programs.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and interpret coding guidelines, payer policies and medical charts.
- Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to conduct routine tasks and contribute to specific objectives and outcomes as directed.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- There are no supervisory responsibilities assigned to this job.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
