Purpose of the role
Finance at Laminar is not just about keeping the lights on. It’s about building the operational backbone of a company that is scaling fast, globally, and with high standards.
We are looking for a Finance Operations & Controls Specialist to help us run the engine room of finance: payments, payroll coordination, reconciliations, controls, treasury operations, and finance reporting.
This is an operational role at its core - ideal for someone who enjoys structure, accuracy, ownership, and solving problems. Someone who notices when numbers don’t add up, asks questions, improves workflows, and genuinely cares about doing things properly.
You’ll work closely with the People Ops, external accountants, payroll providers, and teams across the business to make sure our finance operations are reliable, scalable, and efficient.
This role is for people who like being hands-on. Not just reviewing spreadsheets from afar, but actually improving how finance works day to day.
Team
Finance at Laminar is much more than reporting numbers and processing payments. We are building the operational foundation that allows the business to scale globally, responsibly, and sustainably.
Even as a relatively lean team, Finance has a huge impact across the company. We care deeply about operational discipline, financial stability, strong controls, and creating systems that actually work as we grow.
We are not interested in finance teams that just “keep things ticking over.” We want to build a function that is proactive, data-driven, operationally sharp, and constantly improving.
That means the fundamentals matter a lot here: payments need to be right, payroll needs to run smoothly, reconciliations need to make sense, and financial data needs to be trustworthy. But beyond that, we want people who challenge inefficient processes, improve workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and help us build a better finance function for the future.
You’ll work closely with People Ops, Operations, external providers, and stakeholders across the business - owning your area while helping strengthen the team around you.

Your top responsibilities
- Own core finance operations Support payments, treasury activities, payroll coordination, reconciliations, and operational finance processes to ensure everything runs accurately and on time.
- Strengthen controls and accuracy Perform checks, reconciliations, and reviews across financial data and operational workflows. Investigate inconsistencies, resolve issues proactively, and improve reliability across processes.
- Improve systems and workflows Use Excel and Power Query to structure, clean, analyse, and improve finance data. Help automate manual tasks and create more scalable ways of working.
- Collaborate across the business Work closely with Finance, People Ops, external accountants, payroll providers, and operational teams to ensure smooth coordination and clear communication.
- Take ownership and drive improvement Operate autonomously, identify inefficiencies, challenge weak processes constructively, and proactively contribute ideas that improve how the function operates.
Your Capabilities
You enjoy being close to the detail, spotting issues before they become problems, and improving the way things work - not just repeating the same process every month.
You are organised, proactive, comfortable working independently, and naturally curious about how processes, systems, and data can work better together.
Must-Have (The fundamentals)
- 3–5 years of experience in finance operations, accounting, payroll, treasury, payments, or similar operational finance roles
- Strong Excel skills and solid Power Query experience
- Experience working with reconciliations, financial data, and operational controls
- Strong attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies quickly
- Comfortable taking ownership and operating autonomously
- Clear communication skills in English
- Process-improvement mindset — you naturally look for better ways of working
- Comfortable using AI/tools to improve efficiency and solve problems
- Power BI experience
- Experience with Xero, Pleo, Wise, or similar finance tools
- Experience working across multiple countries/entities
- Experience supporting or improving operational finance processes in scaling businesses
- Comfortable operating in fast-moving, international environments
