Kaleidos

Kaleidos is a Madrid-based open-source startup that incubates, funds, and operates products like Taiga and Penpot, with employee ownership and values-driven culture at its core.

About Kaleidos

We're a team of technologists who left corporate jobs in 2011 to build something different - a place where we'd actually want to work. Now, over a decade later, we're still driven by that same desire to create meaningful impact through technology. We incubate, fund, and operate our own open-source products like Taiga and Penpot, which are used by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. What makes us different is our ownership structure: employees own 55% of the company, so we're not just building products for someone else's benefit. We're building them together, sharing both the risks and the rewards.

Our culture isn't something we put on a poster - it's how we actually work. We keep things flat and self-organized, without traditional management hierarchies. Everyone here can be a co-founder and co-owner. We use Linux as our primary OS, embrace functional programming, and contribute actively to open-source communities. We're also unapologetically feminist and believe that diversity isn't just a buzzword - it makes our work better. From hosting volunteering marathons for women in STEAM to adopting the Economy for the Common Good model, we're constantly trying to use our skills and privilege to build a slightly better world through code.
