In this role, you will serve as a technical leader in reliability engineering, driving safety, maintainability, and reliability initiatives for advanced aerospace cargo systems. You will apply expert knowledge to influence design, optimize safety-related metrics, and support the full product lifecycle from concept through development and testing. The position involves performing complex assessments, reliability predictions, and analyses while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams and external stakeholders. You will mentor less experienced engineers, implement standard practices, and contribute to process improvements. This role requires strategic thinking, technical excellence, and the ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences. Accountabilities:
The Senior Principal Reliability Engineer ensures product safety, reliability, and maintainability throughout development:
- Perform safety assessments including System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Preliminary and System Safety Assessments (PSSA/SSA), Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), and Common Mode Analyses (CMA).
- Conduct reliability assessments, including Reliability Program Plans (RPP), Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) predictions, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA), and reliability modeling.
- Lead and support reliability testing such as Highly Accelerated Life Tests (HALT) and Reliability Enhancement Tests (RET), including development of procedures, reports, and corrective actions.
- Define Safety and Reliability design requirements based on customer specifications and standard engineering work practices.
- Mentor and train junior engineers, providing technical guidance across multiple projects.
- Support integration activities, internal and external customer reviews, and proposal efforts.
- Communicate complex technical information effectively to management, engineering teams, and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Candidates should have deep technical expertise and leadership experience in reliability engineering:
- STEM degree required; advanced degrees preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in reliability engineering, including predictions and testing.
- Experience managing engineering teams and multiple technical projects.
- Proficiency with reliability methodologies (FMEA, FMECA, FTA, RCA) and industry standards (SAE ARP4754/4761, MIL-STD-882E).
- Experience in mechanical, electro-mechanical, analog/digital circuit design, or mechanical design analysis.
- Strong data analysis, trending, and presentation skills, including scripting and reliability software tools such as CAFTA.
- Ability to manage international teams and collaborate with cross-functional groups.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
