Principal Database Programmer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal Database Programmer in Poland.

As a Principal Database Programmer, you will lead and execute database programming activities that support clinical studies, ensuring high-quality data management, compliance, and operational excellence. You will serve as a technical mentor, guiding junior programmers and contributing to the development of standards and processes that improve efficiency and reliability. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional study teams, including clinical data management, biostatistics, and external vendors. You will take ownership of study database setup, validation, and user support while providing programming expertise for data management outputs, SDTM datasets, and reporting. Working in a fast-paced, regulated environment, you will directly impact the quality and success of clinical research programs.

Accountabilities:

• Lead database programming for assigned clinical studies or programs, including setup of study databases and ePRO/IRT systems.
• Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior and senior database programmers on CDMS systems and processes.
• Develop and review database validation plans, perform validation/UAT, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Support clinical data management with data import/export, data transfer specifications, and user access management.
• Execute database locks and provide user support throughout the study lifecycle.
• Contribute to system validation, SOP development, and process improvement initiatives.
• Perform SAS programming for data management outputs, global macro development, and SDTM dataset creation where applicable.
• Collaborate with sponsors, internal teams, and vendors to ensure high-quality and compliant data delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant database programming experience in the pharmaceutical or CRO industry, including at least 5 years at a senior level.
• Expertise with CDMS systems and knowledge of GxP standards (e.g., 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP).
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Strong SAS programming skills, including SDTM datasets, define.XML, and reporting.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and sponsors.
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to delivering high-quality, compliant programming outputs.
