This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Head of Security and Technical Operations in the United States.
The Head of Security and Technical Operations will lead and shape the security and reliability posture of a high-growth technology platform. You will oversee both Security Operations and Technical Operations functions, ensuring robust threat detection, incident response, and production reliability. This hands-on "player-coach" role requires building and mentoring a high-performing team while directly managing critical incidents and vulnerabilities. You will implement strategies that enhance operational resilience, maintain compliance, and optimize system performance. Partnering closely with engineering, product, and customer experience teams, you will drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. This role offers the opportunity to influence both technical strategy and day-to-day operations in a dynamic, remote-friendly environment.
Accountabilities
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of security and operations engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and operational excellence.
- Develop and execute the security operations strategy, including threat detection, monitoring, and incident response.
- Manage vulnerability programs and collaborate with engineering to ensure timely remediation.
- Oversee technical operations, incident management, and serve as Incident Commander for critical production issues.
- Design, manage, and refine company-wide incident response processes for all security, reliability, and functional incidents.
- Develop technical roadmaps, prioritize deliverables, and manage on-call rotations for the team.
- Analyze incidents and post-mortems to identify root causes and implement continuous improvements.
- Report key metrics, including MTTR, MTTD, vulnerability counts, and uptime, to executive leadership.
Requirements
- 7–10+ years of hands-on experience in security operations, incident response, and/or technical operations/SRE, with at least 2 years in people management.
- Deep expertise in modern cloud-native security operations (GCP, AWS, or Azure), including threat detection, SIEM, SOAR, and EDR/MDR tooling.
- Proven experience running vulnerability management programs and security incident response lifecycles.
- Strong technical operations background, including incident management, NOC oversight, and observability/monitoring platforms (Datadog, New Relic, PagerDuty).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills; calm and decisive under pressure.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
- Hands-on "player-coach" mentality with the ability to execute strategy while engaging in technical problem-solving.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills in high-pressure environments.
