We are looking for an external consultant, Data Engineer, to support the technical oversight of a public health IT infrastructure. This is a 20 hours per week position. The consultant will provide expertise in data engineering architecture, integration monitoring, and optimisation of data pipelines and automated processes. The role focuses on ensuring that data integrations, database structures, and automation mechanisms align with technical and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical advisory support on data engineering architecture
- Evaluate system architecture and data pipelines during development and implementation
- Support automated data source integrations (e.g. API, HL7, SQL or equivalent)
- Monitor and optimise database, warehouse, and ETL/ELT processes
- Troubleshoot data ingestion and processing issues
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and security controls
- Oversee compliance with data protection and regulatory frameworks
- Collaborate with Data Managers to ensure validated and clean datasets
- Contribute to documentation of pipelines, schemas, and processes
- Participate in technical coordination meetings
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Data Engineer or IT Developer in infrastructure or system implementation projects
- Strong SQL coding skills (certification or demonstrable authorship preferred)
- Experience with APIs, automated data connections (e.g. HL7 or equivalent), and workflow automation
- Knowledge of database management and data pipeline architecture
- Understanding of data governance and GDPR compliance principles
- Fluent English (minimum B2 level)
- Availability to work 20 hours per week
