Senior ML Backend Engineer

Intuition Machines uses AI/ML to build enterprise security products. We apply our research to systems that serve hundreds of millions of people, with a team distributed around the world. You are probably familiar with our best-known product, the hCaptcha security suite. Our approach is simple: low overhead, small teams, and rapid iteration.

We're looking for a for a Senior ML Backend Engineer with strong software engineering skills and a creative mindset for Machine Learning focused problem solving.

What you will do:

• Design, build, and maintain high reliability backend systems that scale to millions of RPS.
• Work business goals into technical specs and iterative dev plans. We ship early and often, but our first customer of a new product or feature may be deploying it to 500 million people.
• Work with queue-driven and event-driven designs, REST APIs, serverless and microservice architectures, and multi-cloud/multi-CDN environments using Kubernetes and other orchestrators.
• Write Python and JS/TS as necessary to solve business goals.
• Focus on clearly structured, maintainable, well-documented, and tested code, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Work with other backend developers to integrate your work with our infrastructure including automating observability, deployment, quality, and security.
• Participate in code reviews, take part in architecture & design sessions, proactively watch for recent developments in relevant technologies and assess their applicability.
• Feel confident with tasks that are not fully defined, proactively helping the team to shape and implement them

What we are looking for:

• Thoughtful, conscientious, and self-directed people.
• 4+ years of professional experience building and maintaining large-scale production systems with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
• In-depth knowledge of Python
• Experience with orchestration platforms: Kubernetes, containerization, and microservice design.
• Experience with database systems (SQL, NoSQL), distributed systems and architectures, stream processing, test-driven-development, CI/CD.
• Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in a technical or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent job experience.
• Excellent communication, listening and presentation skills to and with diverse audiences and experience supporting and mentoring peers.

• You've led technical discussions with a team and helped drive decisions by balancing trade-offs.
  

Nice to Have:

• College-level mathematical knowledge (linear algebra, probability theory, stats, matrix calculus).
• Experience with Rust, Go, or other programming languages.
• Ability to understand and write code in JS/TS.
• Practical experience applying ML concepts such as optimization, classification, regression, generalization.
