Instrumental is the leader in AI for manufacturing and is used by the world’s most admired electronics brands to accelerate revenue and reduce costs. Our AI cloud platform leverages visual inspection and functional test data to expedite failure analysis and improve throughput.

We’re seeking a Data Quality Specialist to join our team and help scale our ability to deliver world-class manufacturing AI solutions. This role will have a direct impact on the quality of results our customers see in the Instrumental platform.

This role is ideal for a professional with a background in manufacturing or quality control. As a Data Quality Specialist, you will play a hands‑on role in reviewing and analyzing customer image data in our application to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Come join us if you are meticulous and passionate about improving electronics manufacturing and love working with a global team. The ideal candidate is multi‑faceted, technically savvy, organized, and deeply customer-oriented.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Set‑Up Customer Program Environment: Partner with a global customer success team to ensure high‑quality data ingestion post‑deployment by preparing the customer environment for anomaly and defect detection. Avoid errors that could undermine AI model performance or user experience.
  • Label and Review Data: Classify product images accurately and consistently, ensuring high-quality training data for our AI models.
  • Maintain Quality Standards: Follow established guidelines and processes to avoid errors that could degrade model performance.
  • Data Reporting: Clean and refine customer image data for immediate use in summary reports. This process involves reviewing photos, summarizing key defect trends and patterns, and generating program ROI reports.
  • Process Improvement and Issue Escalation: Maintain process discipline by following established workflows. Proactively identify and flag unusual data patterns, environment changes (like new SKUs or lighting issues), or ambiguous cases, escalating them to senior team members to ensure the best possible results.

What You Have

  • 1‑2 years of work experience in a manufacturing, process or mechanical engineering or quality inspection role, ideally in the high‑tech electronics industry.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform repetitive tasks consistently and accurately.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Technically savvy and eager to learn new systems and tools.
  • Ability to learn quickly, follow structured processes, and apply feedback to improve program results.
  • Written and spoken Mandarin language skills strongly preferred.

You’re encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn’t precisely match the job description.

The journey of Instrumental, Inc. began with a direct insight into the heart of modern manufacturing's most significant challenges. Its founders, Anna-Katrina Shedletsky and Samuel Weiss, while working as product design engineers at Apple, experienced firsthand the pervasive inefficiencies and waste that plagued the electronics industry. They witnessed the costly delays, the mountains of scrap, and the frustrating lack of sophisticated tools available to engineering and operations teams striving to enhance their processes. This intimate understanding of what they term the 'trillion-dollar problem' in manufacturing – where an estimated twenty cents of every dollar spent is lost to inefficiency – became the crucible for their innovative idea.

Driven by this experience, they embarked on a mission in 2014 to create a solution, officially founding Instrumental in 2015. Their vision was clear: to revolutionize how electronics products are conceived, built, and brought to market. At the core of Instrumental's philosophy was the conviction that better, more accessible data – delivered precisely when and where it was needed – could fundamentally transform manufacturing. They envisioned a comprehensive platform capable of providing unparalleled visibility into the entire production lifecycle. This platform would leverage the power of artificial intelligence to proactively identify defects, streamline operations, and optimize everything from the earliest prototype stages (Proto) right through to full-scale mass production. Instrumental was conceived to empower engineers and manufacturers, shifting the paradigm from reactive troubleshooting, often hampered by cumbersome spreadsheets, unclear images, and expensive international travel, to a proactive, data-centric methodology. The system was meticulously designed to serve as an indispensable component of the modern manufacturing technology stack, featuring easily deployable data collection stations, the creation of a complete visual archive for every unit produced, and AI-driven insights to accelerate issue discovery and drastically reduce waste. Today, Instrumental is recognized as a leading manufacturing optimization platform, earning the trust of some of the world's most respected electronics brands. It continues to help these companies build superior products with enhanced efficiency and reliability, steadfastly pursuing its ambitious goal of halving manufacturing waste and pioneering a new era of agility, transparency, and optimization within the global manufacturing landscape.
