InfluxData is the creator of InfluxDB, the leading time series platform used to collect, store, and analyze all time series data at any scale. Developers can query and analyze their time-stamped data in real-time to discover, interpret, and share new insights to gain a competitive edge. InfluxData is a remote-first company with a globally distributed workforce. For more information, visit www.influxdata.com.

We are seeking a highly skilled individual contributor (IC) with background knowledge on Database and QA to join the Database Performance and Reliability Team. In this role, you will be working closely on the InfluxDB Enterprise 3 product and be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, correctness, stability and high performance of our core database platform across complex data models and workloads. AI is integrated into our daily workflow, proficiency and hands-on experience with AI-driven tools and techniques are essential.

What you'll be doing

  • Own and execute automated reliability, regression, and correctness test workflows within the CI/CD pipeline.

  • Implement and maintain repeatable test contracts utilizing frameworks like internal tools to validate query accuracy, product lifecycle, database compactions, and recoverability.

  • Differentiate between standard functional validation and exhaustive reliability testing—simulating real-world customer workloads, database restarts, memory exhaustion, and deployments.

  • Collaborate closely with core developers to convert high-level engineering specifications and customer root-cause analyses into formal, repeatable test constraints.

  • Investigate complex performance data variations, capture system profiles, and proactively identify architectural bottlenecks before production deployment.

  • Be part of an on-call rotation when need arises.

  • Develop and Review automated reports on a regular cadence to flag suspicious query latency regressions, data divergence bugs, or resource starvation issues to relevant engineering stakeholders.

What we're looking for

  • Coding Proficiency: Deep hands-on experience developing using Rust (highly preferred) or a desire to learn Rust with system experience in [C++|Golang].

  • Strong QA and Testing Experience: Proven track record in performance, regression, and reliability validation frameworks. Ability to confidently establish repeatable baselines for distributed data systems.

  • Solid understanding of CS fundamentals with minimum Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of work experience.

  • Comfort using modern AI assistants and tools (e.g., Claude) for quick troubleshooting, on-the-fly utility generation, and analyzing logs and pattern anomalies at scale.

  • Competency working with containerized environments and orchestration frameworks like Docker and Kubernetes, alongside modern CI utilities such as CircleCI.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively work asynchronously.

Bonus if you've had experience

  • Building distributed systems.

  • Working with database internals and various cloud vendors.

  • Participating in an on-call rotation.

  • Working with distributed products and teams.

We are driven to create something great that excites and propels developers to be wildly successful.

The explosion in the amount of data that is being created is expected to grow nearly fivefold by 2025 to 175 zettabytes per year, as all things in the virtual world — databases, networks, containers, systems, applications – and the physical world — homes, cities, factories, power grids – are being instrumented. Organizations are emitting relentless streams of time-stamped data. Some have started to realize the value of these observations, but they haven’t even scratched the surface of the intelligence that can be harvested – learnings that can inspire better customer experiences, automate factory floors, and build previously unthinkable applications.

We created InfluxDB, a purpose-built time series platform, to specifically handle these new workloads, encompassing millions of data points and hundreds of data sources because general purpose databases are inadequate. To derive intelligence faster, we created Flux, a powerful scripting and query engine designed specifically to harness real-time insights from time series data.

We are dedicated to open source and truly care about helping developers get to results faster with less complexity and less code. We help customers like Cisco, IBM, PayPal, and Tesla build transformative monitoring, analytics, and IoT applications quicker and to scale, delivering new insights from their data.

InfluxData is backed by Norwest Venture Partners, Sapphire Ventures, Battery Ventures, Trinity Ventures, Mayfield, Harmony Partners, Sorenson Capital, Bloomberg Beta and Y Combinator. We are headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in Austin and team members distributed throughout the U.S. and across Europe.

  • We believe humility drives learning: We approach each other, our work, our customers, and our community with respect, candor, and humility. We are not greedy. We remain open to new ideas and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

  • We embrace failure: We try things, break things, take risks, and believe failure is key to innovation. We bounce back from failure and learn quickly.

  • We are committed to open source: We believe in open source and are committed to participating in and contributing to the open source community in meaningful ways.
