The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is a leading international organization dedicated to improving the livelihoods of people in the world's dry areas through innovative and science-based agricultural research. Founded in 1977, ICARDA focuses on developing sustainable solutions to enhance food security and improve the resilience of rural communities. With a mission to address the agricultural challenges posed by climate change, water scarcity, and food insecurity, ICARDA collaborates with local partners, governments, and organizations to implement effective research-for-development programs.

Over the past four decades, ICARDA has established a strong presence in various regions, conducting research on key crops such as barley, chickpeas, lentils, and wheat. The organization operates several research hubs and offices across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, allowing for a tailored approach to solving specific agricultural issues faced by farmers in arid and semi-arid environments. ICARDA not only focuses on crop development but also works towards sustainable water management, soil health, and the empowerment of women in agriculture. By leveraging partnerships and engaging with farmers, ICARDA aims to promote resilient agricultural practices that can withstand environmental challenges and contribute to improving livelihoods on a broader scale.
