The story of Hygge Energy is deeply intertwined with the journey of its founder, Prateek Saxena, a seasoned veteran of the energy sector. His career, marked by a series of innovative and impactful contributions, laid the groundwork for what would become a pioneering force in cleantech. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology in Nagpur, India, Prateek began his career at Hindustan Petroleum. His natural leadership and knack for optimization quickly became apparent, leading to significant productivity enhancements. This success caught the attention of Mobil Corporation, where he managed global supply and distribution, further honing his expertise in the complex, international energy market. However, it was an internal entrepreneurship competition at the Mahindra Group that truly set the stage for Hygge Energy's creation. Prateek's innovative business idea, a nascent form of Hygge, was crowned the winner from a pool of 200,000 associates, earning him the title of Mahindra's In-house Entrepreneur.

This victory provided the incubation and support needed to develop his vision. For two years, under the aegis of Tech Mahindra, Prateek and his team developed and refined their proprietary technology. In 2019, this intrapreneurial venture officially spun out to become an independent entity, Hygge Energy Inc. The company was immediately invited by MaRS Discovery District, a major Canadian innovation hub, to join its portfolio of promising startups. Since its formal inception, Hygge Energy has been on a mission to revolutionize the renewable energy landscape. The company developed a proprietary blockchain-based peer-to-peer energy platform, designed to make renewable energy not just sustainable, but also profitable for communities. This technology enables the trading of both renewable energy and carbon credits, empowering local distribution utilities to integrate more solar power without increasing costs for consumers. Hygge's journey from a winning idea in a corporate competition to a standalone company with projects in Canada, the USA, the UK, and India, showcases a relentless drive to solve the world's energy challenges through innovation and a deep-seated passion for creating a sustainable future.
