About the Role:

We’re seeking a Director of Frontend Engineering to lead the next chapter of our frontend platform and product experience across a rapidly evolving SaaS ecosystem. This leader will own the frontend engineering strategy, build high-performing teams, and deliver a consistent, reliable, scalable UI platform that supports multiple product lines and frequent deployments.
You will partner closely with Product, Design, Backend Engineering, and Infrastructure to improve customer experience, raise engineering quality, and create frontend systems that scale across teams—especially in an environment where standards exist but are inconsistently enforced and where speed must coexist with reliability. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring a balance of strong technical depth, architectural maturity, cross-team influence, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Frontend Strategy & Technical Direction:
  • Define and execute the frontend engineering strategy across our SaaS products and marketplace ecosystem.
  • Drive the evolution of our Vue-based frontend architecture, ensuring performance, maintainability, accessibility, and long-term scalability.
  • Own frontend standards and long-term platform investments: Design system + UI components || Frontend platform tooling || State management patterns || Frontend observability || Frontend security practices
  • Establish clear architectural boundaries between frontend, API gateway patterns, and micro-services
  • Reliability, Performance, and Quality:
  • Improve customer experience by systematically reducing UI bugs, regressions, and inconsistent behaviour across releases
  • Implement strong frontend quality systems: Component testing, integration testing, and contract testing (especially across APIs) || CI enforcement for linting, type checks, and static analysis || Performance budgets and automated regression checks
  • Promote best practices for performance and reliability at scale: Bundle optimisation and lazy-loading strategies || Render performance improvements || Production monitoring of frontend errors and real-user performance (RUM)
  • Operational Excellence:
  • Partner with DevOps and Platform Engineering to improve deployment safety for frontend artifacts (CI/CD in Jenkins, CDN strategies, rollback readiness).
  • Standardize logging practices and client-side telemetry
  • Define and enforce frontend SLIs/SLOs that correlate to user experience
  • Create proactive systems for identifying issues before they reach customers.
  • Leadership & Team Growth:
  • Build and develop a strong group of frontend leaders (Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, Tech Leads)
  • Establish clear career ladders, performance expectations, and a culture of engineering excellence
  • Foster a healthy engineering culture aligned with fast iteration while maintaining high quality and user trust
  • Recruit and retain exceptional frontend talent—especially those who thrive in high ownership environments
  • Cross-Functional Alignment & Governance:
  • Partner with Product and Design to align on: Frontend delivery velocity, UX consistency & Collaboration processes
  • Drive consistency in how frontend teams work across multiple independent teams and repos
  • Establish and maintain a governance mechanism for frontend: Architectural reviews, Standards enforcement, Shared tooling ownership & Release discipline for critical surfaces

Requirements:

  • 15+ years in frontend/web engineering, including 5+ years of engineering leadership (Director or Senior Manager level)
  • Proven experience owning frontend architecture at scale: multi-product, multi-team, high-frequency deployments
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript expertise; deep understanding of modern frontend systems
  • Strong experience with Vue.js (or similar frameworks such as React/Angular with proven ability to transfer best practices)
  • Proven ability to build/mature design systems and shared component libraries
  • Proven ability to build/mature frontend testing frameworks and release quality systems
  • Proven ability to build/mature performance monitoring and frontend observability
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to influence across independent teams and stakeholders

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • Reduced production-facing UI bugs and regressions through measurable improvements in testing and release safety
  • Improved frontend performance and consistency (faster load times, smoother UX, fewer layout and runtime issues)
  • A stable and widely adopted design system + component library, reducing product fragmentation
  • Clear standards and workflows adopted across teams (linting, type safety, component patterns, observability)
  • Strong frontend leadership bench built and growing (EMs, Staff Engineers, Frontend Platform)
  • Faster execution with fewer fire drills—frontend becomes a force multiplier for product teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in regulated environments (SOC2 / HIPAA), including secure UI patterns and privacy-first design
  • Experience working with microservices architectures and API contract strategies
  • Familiarity with frontend delivery using CDNs, WAFs, edge caching, and modern CI/CD practices
  • Experience managing a distributed team and building high-trust systems for execution
