About this role

We are seeking a Senior Manager to contribute to GiveDirectly’s next phase of growth by strengthening and expanding our institutional and foundation partnerships. This role plays a pivotal part in securing high-impact funding that enables us to scale evidence-based cash programs globally.

As a senior leader within the Global Partnerships team, you’ll be responsible for driving new and innovative revenue growth across an assigned portfolio of partners. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, and operates with a high degree of autonomy, setting and executing engagement strategy for priority funders and stewarding relationships from early conversations through proposal development and contract.

A Senior Manager, Partnerships requires the ability to thread the needle between exploratory conversations and clearly defined next steps, translating high-level ideas into compelling pitches, actionable plans, and ultimately, contracted funding. Working closely with the Director of Partnerships on positioning and portfolio strategy, you will independently own day-to-day relationship management and pipeline building. You’ll be responsible for developing high-quality materials and ensuring funder intelligence is systematically captured and shared across the team.

  • Reports to: Director, Partnerships
  • Level: Senior Manager
  • Location: Remote, with minimum 3 hours overlap with East Africa timezones
  • Travel Requirement: Must be able to travel at minimum 2 times per year to one of our countries of operation for team retreats, donor field visits, or other events.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and grow a portfolio: Own strategic engagement and pipeline development across institutional and foundation partners, setting the engagement strategy and advancing high-potential opportunities into funded partnerships.
  • Represent GiveDirectly externally: Drive external engagement across funded and strategic partnerships, leading meetings, pitch development and relationship management with credibility and clarity.
  • Prospect and plan systematically: Monitor and synthesize funding trends and donor priorities across thematic and country portfolios, translating strategic intelligence into actionable next steps and internal planning.
  • Write compellingly: Draft high-quality fundraising materials that translate complex research, product and programmatic insights into clear, compelling narratives for donor audiences.
  • Manage complex projects: Navigate complexity and blank space, bringing creative and grounded problem-solving to the management of high-stakes proposals and projects.
  • Develop others: Support and mentor colleagues across teams, building confidence and capability in proposal writing, relationship management, and strategic communication.

What you’ll bring:

  • Exceptional alignment with GiveDirectly Values and active demonstration of our core competencies: emotional intelligence, problem solving, project management, follow-through, and fostering inclusivity. We welcome and strongly encourage applications from candidates who have personal or professional experience in the low-income and/or historically marginalized communities that we serve.
  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising, partnerships, or program development in a mission-driven or high-performance setting, with a strong understanding of key debates and major players in development and humanitarian assistance.
  • A track record of tenacious problem solving, taking ownership, and delivering results in complex, ambiguous contexts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for high-stakes, external-facing materials.
  • Comfort navigating relationships and working directly with senior leaders internally and externally.
  • Experience operating with data to strengthen team-wide positioning and decision-making
  • Strong prioritization and self-management skills, with comfort operating across multiple workstreams and stakeholders.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing others.

Through groundbreaking technology and a commitment to evidence-based approaches, GiveDirectly is revolutionizing how global poverty is addressed. The organization pioneers unconditional cash transfers, empowering individuals and families living in extreme poverty to make their own choices about how best to improve their lives. GiveDirectly leverages mobile and satellite technologies to identify vulnerable populations and deliver funds directly into their hands, bypassing traditional aid intermediaries. This innovative model ensures that a high percentage of donations, approximately 83-88%, reaches the intended recipients, allowing them to invest in what they need most, whether it's medicine, education, livestock, or starting a business.

GiveDirectly is not only focused on immediate relief but also on long-term systemic change. The organization actively conducts rigorous research, often through randomized control trials, to measure the impact of cash transfers and to continuously refine its methods. This data-driven approach aims to establish cash transfers as a benchmark in the international development sector, challenging traditional aid models and advocating for more efficient and dignified solutions to poverty. By collaborating with governments, research institutions, and local communities, GiveDirectly is scaling its operations and working to influence policy, with the ultimate goal of accelerating the end of extreme poverty globally. Their work includes pioneering basic income experiments and responding to humanitarian crises, demonstrating the versatility and effectiveness of direct cash assistance in diverse contexts.
