Job Description

Gilead Sciences is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercialises innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include infectious diseases, liver disease, inflammatory diseases and cancer.

Essential Job Functions

  • Represents Gilead’s products and services to a defined customer base within a specific geographic area.
  • Utilizes an in–depth level of product and therapeutic disease knowledge to promote the appropriate use of Gilead products to healthcare professionals.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Developing an ongoing business plan for own territory and communicating required actions to achieve goals.
  • Developing and execution of a prioritised individual and account activity plan.
  • Achieving ongoing sales targets in assigned territory.
  • Represents Gilead’s products and services to a defined customer base within a specific geographic area.
  • Utilizes an in–depth level of product and therapeutic disease knowledge to promote the appropriate use of Gilead hepatitis products to healthcare professionals.
  • May assist others with their individual plans and is productive at developing in-depth market interpretation of sales analysis data.
  • Initiates systems to monitor sales progress and action plans.
  • Manages territory budgets for customer contacts, speaker events and other miscellaneous external expenditures.
  • May work in collaboration with their party companies/ harvester partners to co-promote products or services.
  • May represent company at professional events and promote company products at such events.
  • Works cooperatively with Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing and other internal Gilead team members on various cross-functional projects related to specific accounts or physicians.
  • Works as an individual contributor.
  • Forms, builds and extends professional business relationships with key customers or accounts.
  • Effectively networks with thought leaders.
  • Organizes sales initiatives within the market as directed and follows up on these to ensure their successful completion.
  • Sets a positive example for others to follow.
  • May take the lead on projects within team e.g. liaison role with marketing, meetings coordinator etc.
  • May participate in the development and mentoring of less experienced team members.
  • Completes necessary administrative tasks in a timely manner e.g. updating customer database, expenses etc.
  • Responsible for achieving the competency levels required in the role.
  • Compliance with all regulatory agencies, state, and federal law is required.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with a high level of autonomy and independence.
  • Serves as technical expert of assigned product, therapeutic classes, and patient needs in order to educate/influence key physicians.
  • This position requires knowledge of industry trends and competitor’s resources and practices.
  • Must be able to proactively identify issues, opportunities, and resolutions and is able to present and effectively communicate issues and recommendations to marketing and sales management.
  • A BA or BS degree
  • 5-10 years of relevant sales experience within the pharmaceutical industry
