Position Overview
As a senior member of our reporting team, youll design, optimize, and maintain the SQL backbone that powers financial and operational reporting for leadership and key stakeholders. You will translate business questions into reliable, performant SQL solutionsdelivering the right data, on time, every time. This role reports to the Senior Vice President of Application Development.
Work Hours - This position requires that applicants work US Business Hours Monday through Friday
Work Location - This position can be worked 100% virtual. Applicants are required to have Reliable home office setup, including consistent power supply and high-speed internet with redundancy measures in place to support uninterrupted virtual work.
What Youll Do
- Build reliable reporting assets: Design, develop, and maintain T-SQL stored procedures, views, and functions to produce recurring management reports and ad-hoc analyses with 99% on-time delivery.
- Improve performance at scale: Profile queries and execution plans; refactor code, indexes, and schema where needed to reduce runtimes on high-traffic reports.
- Own data quality for your domain: Investigate and resolve exceptions (e.g., asset movement anomalies); implement validation checks and monitoring to keep defect rates down on scheduled outputs.
- Modernize legacy scripts: Take ownership of existing MS SQL reporting scripts; add/modify/optimize them to current standards and consolidate duplicative logic.
- Maintain the database for reporting health: Perform routine maintenance (index tuning, capacity management), ensuring stable performance and adequate headroom for growth.
- Enable the business: Partner with internal stakeholders to elicit requirements, translate them into technical specs, and deliver reporting artifacts that answer the why, not just the what.
- Migrate and automate: Develop procedures and scripts for secure, auditable data migration and automate recurring tasks to reduce manual effort.
- Document and standardize: Produce clear technical documentation (data lineage, dependencies, runbooks) so others can operate and extend your solutions confidently.
What You Bring
- 5+ years professional experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a developer/analyst capacity.
- Expert T-SQL skills (stored procedures, functions, views) and proficiency reading execution plans and tuning queries.
- Hands-on experience with index strategy, database maintenance, and capacity planning.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable SQL solutions and reporting deliverables.
- Experience building scheduled/recurring management reporting and troubleshooting data exceptions.
- Solid understanding of data modeling, transactions/isolation levels, and performance trade-offs.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach with non-technical stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of version control (e.g., Git) and SDLC best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft SSIS/SSRS and/or visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
- Exposure to financial reporting domains (revenue, expenses, assets) and related data controls.
- Familiarity with Azure SQL or other cloud data platforms.
- Comfort with scripting/automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for ops and data tasks.
- Background in requirements facilitation and building lightweight technical specs/user stories.
- Prior success defining/reporting SLAs (timeliness, accuracy, performance) for data products.
