The Decision Support Analyst 2 compiles complex qualitative and quantitative clinical and financial data from multiple sources and synthesizes results into meaningful reports and presentations to assist senior management in decision making and other financial initiatives. This includes maintenance of various data repositories, variance analyses between actual and standard costs, report writing, productivity analyses, identification of trends, financial forecasting, and budgeting.
Job duties
- Maintains assigned software systems and/or databases needed to provide data to the facilities which may include any of the following: the Decision Support Software System, the Market Intelligence Database, the Press-Ganey Database, the Departmental Sharepoint Site, Productivity, the Budgeting System and ongoing Tableau Dashboards.
- Creates and loads necessary data submission files to populate data in the assigned systems or works with FMOLHS I/T to ensure that data submission files are created and loaded.
- Serves as the liaison between the facility, the vendor, and FMOLHS I/T to resolve any software issues or data issues.
- Ensures that the assigned systems data loads are occurring timely and efficiently.
- Audits the assigned systems for accuracy and data integrity and maintains appropriate documentation on the data validation process. Runs any necessary reports to audit the total records in the source file versus the records loaded into the DS system. When a discrepancy is noted between the source file and the information loaded, works with a DS 3 or 4 to determine next steps to resolve the issue. Alerts leadership on any discrepancies identified between source data and loaded data.
- If directed, assists in changes needed to operating budget detail at the cost center level and capital budget files when requested by Analysts 3, 4, or DS leaders. Provides necessary reports throughout the budget process.
- Prepares concise and accurate routine and ad-hoc reports in order to ensure each hospital within FMOL is operating within budget and/or meeting its strategic objectives related to finances, market share, growth, and quality. Audits data prior to sending to end user to ensure the accuracy of the report. Always consults other analysts in DS when preparing new reports for a second audit prior to sending to intended audience.
- Prepares reports on key metrics and statistics whenever requested in a timely manner.
- Initiates and/or responds to benchmarking questionnaires and surveys involving other healthcare facilities and external agencies. Summarizes data for relevant users of the information.
- Creates, produces, and publishes all reports in a timely manner, monitoring and interpreting any trends and/or outliers. Includes narratives, analytical comments, and/or conditional formatting in reports to provide information to customers rather than just data.
- Ensures that reports are published in a customer friendly format with appropriate print ranges, titling, date ranges and source documentation included. Documentation should provide guidance on replication of reports.
- 'Conducts meetings with customers as needed to discuss, educate, and obtain feedback on systems and/or reports.
- Prepares and presents formal presentations and reports to various levels of hospital management and staff in an effort to promote hospital health care service efficiency and quality.
- Works directly with management as a business partner to understand hospital operations and their data needs which may lead to the preparation of staffing matrices proformas for new nursing units, profitability analysis for the evaluation of services, etc. Proactively asks all necessary questions that will help the end user get the appropriate data for their analysis and aid in their accurate interpretation of the data presented. Works with higher level DS analysts to ensure a comprehensives analysis of the customer's needs are assessed to prepare the necessary reports.
- Assesses the audience in a situation and provides the appropriate level of information in a report, presentation, or discussion being aware that too much detail can be overwhelming and too little detail may be useless.
- Assists with training of analysts new to the Decision Support Department and assists with training on any specialized area of expertise developed for all employees of FMOLHS requiring this training.
Experience:
3 years analytical or finance related work and a minimum of 1 year of experience with Tableau software or budget processes or healthcare software applications (experience may be concurrent).
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering, ISDS or other math/science-oriented field is required. A Master's degree in Finance, ISDS, Business Administration or Health Administration or Analytics can substitute for 2 years of experience
