Data Scientist II

Fortra is seeking a Data Scientist II to develop, enhance, and maintain data science solutions with a focus on data processing, algorithms, and machine learning. The role involves working on existing and new software products, requiring a commitment to excellence, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Candidates will contribute to the full software development lifecycle, collaborate with engineering and MLOPs teams, and pursue independent exploration of data science topics, potentially becoming a domain expert in cybersecurity applications.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience in data science roles
• Strong academic background (PhD program in a technical field) is an adequate substitute for a few years of industry experience
• Solid experience developing data science solutions in at least one major programming language such as Python, Java, or C++
• Solid knowledge of Data Science techniques and methodologies
• Some Machine Learning (ML) background and experience in at least one application area such as NLP, Computer Vision, or Generative AI
• Successfully developed and deployed multiple ML models in industry
• Comfortable with Python-based frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other data scientists and engineers within a small team
• Some experience assisting or providing mentorship to junior data scientists
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Demonstrated problem-solving ability and critical thinking skill
• Experience with the Agile/Scrum project development methodology
• Interest in cybersecurity applications
