Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a/an Director, Data Center Power Systems Research & Optimization.

Reporting to the VP, CTO Technical Product Management the Director, Data Center Power Systems Research & Optimization will lead strategic initiatives focused on advancing the performance, reliability, and efficiency of power infrastructure within our data center environment through in-depth system analysis, research into cutting-edge technologies, and development of optimized solutions. This role is responsible for understanding the complex interactions within data center power systems, identifying areas for improvement, and proposing innovative solutions to enhance overall data center performance and sustainability.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Lead the analysis of complex data center power systems using advanced modeling techniques and simulation tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM). This includes performing load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash studies to identify optimization opportunities and resolve power quality issues.
  • Investigate how different elements of the data center power system interact (e.g., UPS, generators, switchgear, cooling systems) and how these interactions impact overall system efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and piloting of emerging technologies in data center power, including renewable energy integration (e.g., solar, energy storage), microgrids, advanced power distribution methods, and innovative power management techniques.
  • Develop and propose optimized power system designs and operational strategies based on system analysis, research findings, and consideration of factors such as efficiency, reliability, cost, and sustainability.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance and support to other engineering teams, operations personnel, and external partners. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that power system innovations align with overall data center objectives.
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation, including research findings, analysis reports, design proposals, and specifications for new technologies and solutions. Maintain and host technical forums to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Drive innovation by researching and developing new power system concepts and architectures, translating aspirational company goals into well-defined, achievable, and testable specifications. Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for data center power infrastructure.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team,

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with an advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred.
  • Over 10 years of experience in electrical design, power systems analysis, and research, with a focus on data centers or mission-critical environments.
  • Expert knowledge of electrical design principles, power distribution, redundancy design, grounding systems, and emergency backup solutions.
  • Extensive experience with power system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PSCAD).
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and codes relevant to data center power systems.
  • Proven ability to conduct in-depth analysis of complex systems, identify optimization opportunities, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Experience with the assessment and integration of emerging technologies in data center power.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.

Pay Range (Applicable to US Remote). Due to this role being remote, the actual pay range will vary depending on the geographical location of the candidate$166,000.00 USD - $228,300.00 USD Annual
