Stay safe on Himalayas

Never send money to companies. Jobs on Himalayas will never require payment from applicants.

Our Infrastructure Architectserves as the critical technical expert responsible for all post-sales deployment and integration of the Epistemix platform into client infrastructure. This is a highly technical, hands-on role.

You will be the vital link between our product's architecture and our clients' varied technical landscapes. This role requires the ability to be both a hands-on architect and navigating complex client IT, security, and application environments (AWS, GCP, private cloud, or on-prem) to successfully deploy our product and ensure immediate value realization.

About Epistemix

Epistemix helps organizations forecast outcomes and manage risk by modeling how people behave. Our platform consists of two core products: Populus, which provides access to realistic, high-resolution synthetic population data, and Polaris, which enables scenario planning through advanced data science and simulation. Together, they empower customers to evaluate the potential impact of strategies before deploying them in the real world.

Organizations across healthcare, consumer industries, insurance, and government use Epistemix to reduce uncertainty, optimize decisions, and accelerate time to value. Whether estimating total addressable market, testing public health interventions, or forecasting behavior change, our tools help teams make confident decisions when pre-existing data may not exist.

Leading up to our Series B financing, we are hiring key roles onto the team and entering an exciting phase of growth and innovation. Join us to combine cutting-edge technology with a purpose-driven mission to make the world a better place.

  • Interface with client IT organization to understand infrastructure environment and provide architectural guidance during implementation.

  • Ensure all client-side integration and deployment methods are designed to meet rigorous standards, including SOC 2 and ISO 27001, HIPAA.

  • Work with client IT organizations to set deployments in complex settings, including public cloud (AWS/GCP), private cloud, and traditional on-premises/dedicated application environments.

  • Develop and use custom automation tooling (Python is a must) to streamline deployment processes, integrating with client-side identity and access management (e.g., OAuth2/OIDC).

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of industry experience, 3+ years of architectural implementation experience

  • Hands on and expert level experience in:

    • Python, Fast API and/or Django

    • Terraform. Additional knowledge of Kubernetes, and Docker highly preferred.

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a relevant technical discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or Public Health

  • Demonstrated experience managing or contributing to organizational compliance programs, specifically the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to HIPAA (HITECH Act) privacy/security rules and achieving SOC 2 attestation

  • Experience with data warehouse integrations with Snowflake, Databricks or other data warehouse platforms.

  • Experience managing and supporting deployments in environments beyond public cloud (e.g., on-premise, private cloud, or dedicated client application environments).

Nice to Have Experience

  • Familiarity with the architectural demands of distributed computing libraries (Ray, Modin, Pandas) is highly valued.

  • Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and React.

The story of Epistemix begins long before its official founding, rooted in decades of academic research at the University of Pittsburgh. In the early 2000s, Dr. Donald Burke and Dr. John Grefenstette, two leading figures in epidemiology and public health, began developing a powerful modeling system known as FRED (Framework for Reconstructing Epidemiological Dynamics). Their goal was to create a tool that could simulate the spread of infectious diseases with unprecedented accuracy, using synthetic populations that mirrored the real world down to the individual level. For years, this technology remained a specialized academic asset, used primarily to understand and predict public health crises.

In 2018, recognizing the potential of this technology to solve complex problems beyond just epidemiology, Burke and Grefenstette teamed up with John Cordier to spin the technology out into a commercial entity. Thus, Epistemix was born. The trio sought to democratize access to these advanced simulations, enabling organizations across various sectors—from government agencies to event organizers—to forecast outcomes and manage risks with confidence. By simulating how people behave and interact in a statistically accurate virtual world, Epistemix empowers leaders to test strategies and make data-driven decisions in an increasingly complex and interconnected society.
