About the Team

Our engineering squads work hand-in-hand with product managers, designers, and infrastructure teams to deliver impactful SaaS products. This particular role is within a dedicated product delivery squad, responsible for several core applications within our broader SaaS suite. We focus on building new features, maintaining and scaling existing products, and pioneering future services to meet the evolving needs of higher education.

About the role:

We are seeking a highly talented Senior Software Engineer I, backend focused, with deep expertise in Ruby on Rails to join our dynamic engineering squad. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable SaaS applications, mentoring junior engineers, and driving technical excellence across your projects.

You will contribute to project planning, timelines, and development strategies, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions under the guidance of more senior squad members.

Responsibilities:

· Lead the development of new features and enhancements for our Ruby on Rails-based APIs.

· Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

· Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following best practices.

· Participate in architecture and design discussions to build scalable and robust systems.

· Mentor and review work of junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

· Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and technical debt.

· Contribute to the improvement of development processes, tools, and standards.

· Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in Ruby on Rails and web development.

· Operate in an Agile development environment.

Requirements:

· 5+ years of professional software development experience with a strong proficiency in Ruby, Rails, and related web technologies.

· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.

· Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerization.

· Solid understanding of various database technologies: PostgreSQL, MySQL, and GraphQL.

· Experience with testing frameworks RSpec and/or Minitest.

· Knowledge of background job processing: Amazon SQS, Shoryuken, Sidekiq.

· Understanding of performance optimization, observability, monitoring, and scaling best practices

· Understanding of Git, Github, and CI/CD pipelines

· Strong communication and collaboration skills.

· Proven track record of mentoring or leading technical initiatives.

· Familiarity with front-end technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular) is a plus.
