The Opportunity

As the Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer, you will be acting under the direction and control of NNB Commissioning programme, leading teams to successfully commissioning HPC. Building successful collaborative relationships with, contractors, the HPC project delivery team, site engineering and the plant operational organisation will be critical to ensuring success within your role.

You will be responsible for contributing to the safe and effective commissioning of Electrical systems within the HPC project. This includes critical plant systems such as LV distribution systems at 690VAC, 400VAC & 220VDC, UPS systems, large battery installations and power transformers. You will also contribute to planning activities, enabling deadlines to be meet in a timely manner.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll make sure all necessary resources are ready before work starts. This includes gathering key documents like work instructions, risk and COSHH assessments, and ensuring tools and equipment are available. You’ll also share important information related to the job, such as the work scope, safety rules, risk assessments at the point of work, and any permit limitations.

You’ll manage the handover process by reviewing and accepting handover documents, walking down systems, and confirming everything is complete. You'll support commissioning engineers for I&C, mechanical, and process systems with electrical-related tasks. You’ll also lead the execution of electrical commissioning tests, making sure they meet approved procedures and system acceptance criteria, while accurately recording the test results and any supporting data.

As part of the role, you’ll identify and troubleshoot faults or design issues, update drawings to reflect the final build, and raise any concerns or required changes, including temporary modifications. You’ll keep electrical system data up to date, monitor tests carried out by others (including on-site, off-site, and Factory Acceptance Testing), and enter key information into commissioning systems. Finally, you’ll highlight any lessons learned or useful insights from the work carried out.

Who you are

You have experience working in high-risk industries such as nuclear, utilities, oil and gas, or other similar sectors. You have strong technical knowledge of low voltage systems, including AC/DC switchgear, uninterruptible power supplies, control systems, and protection equipment. Ideally, you have worked in commissioning, engineering, or maintenance roles within power generation or other high-hazard environments.

You’re familiar with safety and quality-focused working environments and have a proven track record of contributing to major projects in a technical role. You communicate well and can explain complex technical details clearly to others. You hold a degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification, such as an HNC, along with relevant commissioning experience.
