The Manager of Data Center Operational Excellence will be a vital member of the leadership team of the North American division of Edged Data Centers. We are looking for someone who can support comprehensive data center operations across regional facilities, providing strategic leadership for mission-critical infrastructure operations while driving operational excellence, reliability, and efficiency to meet stringent service level agreements and business objectives. This role is primarily focused on developing, implementing, and overseeing fleet wide processes to improve the overall operational posture of the organization. These processes include developing and implementing a drill program and developing and implementing a change management process.
The Manager of Data Center Operational Excellence will work on strategic projects across multiple departments to improve operational excellence, team performance, safety, efficiency, and reduce costs. The Manager of Data Center Operational Excellence needs to be an agile, team-focused individual, with proven professionalism and leadership who is comfortable in a rapidly changing environment. The right person is trustworthy with confidential information, highly organized, self-motivated, has excellent communication skills, can think strategically, and works equally as well independently as with a team. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute operational support strategies for data center portfolio including capacity planning, performance optimization, and service delivery enhancement. Establish operational standards, policies, and procedures while ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, client requirements, and industry best practices for mission-critical infrastructure management.
- Support operations across multiple data center facilities and clients. Provide support to Site Operations Managers, engineering teams, and technical staff. Provide technical expertise and program implementation support on deliverables (client service, operational, field execution) of operations and critical environments. Provide or coordinate SME resources to support the needs of the account or site.
- Drive adoption of emerging technologies including automation systems, predictive analytics, and IoT platforms to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention. Champion digital transformation initiatives and evaluate new technologies for competitive advantage and operational improvement.
- Develop opportunities for cross-team effectiveness and remove organizational barriers for strong teamwork, collaboration, and excellent service delivery.
- Engage in improvement projects, which often require reaching out to a variety of support teams and working with them from conception to completion.
- Use data analytics to identify improvement opportunities and to drive operational excellence to move the team to deliver better reliability and uptime.
- Periodically audit site performance and provide feedback to improve operational practices, maintenance quality, training, and drill execution.
- Work with the training manager to identify and develop training to directly address training needs that drive operational excellence.
- Own and continuously improve the change control process to drive better execution of Method of Procedures at the site level.
- Develop and refine policies, procedures, and standards related to performance, capacity, availability, continuity, and security.
Skills & Requirements Education / Experience
- 10+ years managing engineering or technical staff
- 5+ years project/program management/ reliability engineering
- Experience with predictive maintenance, continuous improvement and reliability engineering around mechanical & electrical critical infrastructure
- Experience managing a change control environment
- Extensive knowledge of data center processes, procedures and standards
- Certifications/Accreditations that will be viewed positively: ITIL v2/3/4, CDCP, AOS.
- Advance in Microsoft Office 365
Specific Skills/Abilities
- Ability to interpret industry data center standards, policies & methodologies.
- Ability to improve performance management & critical awareness methods and implementation standards thinking outside the box
- Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
- Ability to develop Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), and power metering system
