Easy Languages

What started as a humble high school passion project in Münster, Germany, has blossomed into a global phenomenon known as Easy Languages. The journey began in 2005 when Janusz Hamerski, a former truck driver turned media educator, led a video workshop for students. They created a simple street interview video as a private gift for two Vietnamese students learning German. A year later, Janusz uploaded the video to a newly launched platform called YouTube, completely unaware that it would eventually captivate nearly two million viewers. This unexpected success laid the foundation for what would become Easy German.

In 2013, Janusz teamed up with co-founder Carina 'Cari' Schmid to officially launch the Easy Languages project, transforming their hobby into a dedicated mission. They relocated to Berlin in 2014 to focus on the initiative full-time, driven by a shared vision to make language learning authentic, engaging, and deeply connected to real-world culture. Their innovative approach—teaching languages through authentic street interviews with bilingual subtitles—quickly resonated with learners worldwide who were tired of traditional, textbook-heavy methods.

Today, Easy Languages has evolved from a single YouTube channel into a thriving international network and franchise. Operating out of Berlin, the company now supports a global team of content creators producing videos and podcasts in over 30 different languages, including Easy Spanish, Easy French, and Easy Catalan. With millions of subscribers and hundreds of millions of views, the organization continues to break down cultural barriers, promote intercultural exchange, and empower people across the globe to learn languages directly from the streets.
