Position Overview
The Senior Integration Engineer will lead the integration of medication data feeds from payer partners into DrFirst solutions. This role requires both technical excellence and strong relationship management skills, as you will own the ongoing business relationships with payer organizations while managing the continuous integration of their medication data.
You will play a critical role in scaling direct payer integrations and prior authorization workflows while owning both the technical execution and business relationships with payer partners. This role blends hands-on integration engineering, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with product to establish scalable processes and SOPs as payer connectivity grows.
You will serve as a technical and business-facing leader for payer integrations, helping transform complex payer workflows into reliable, repeatable, and scalable integration capabilities. As a senior member of the team, you will also serve as a technical resource and mentor for Integration Services Engineers, supporting medication management solution integrations into EMR/EHR platforms when needed.
This role requires managing multiple concurrent integration projects, maintaining strong payer relationships through regular communication and updates, and ensuring seamless delivery as payers continuously add new plans, update formularies, and introduce new data elements.

What you will work on
Payer Integration Ownership
- Lead end-to-end integration of medication data feeds from national and regional payers
- Design, build, and support direct payer integrations with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, BCBS
- Act as technical subject matter expert for payer-specific integration requirements
Business Relationship Management
- Serve as primary technical and business contact for payer partners
- Own business and technical relationships with payer partners
- Partner with payer stakeholders to align on requirements and timelines
Prior Authorization Integration Expertise
- Build, maintain, and optimize prior authorization integrations
- Troubleshoot complex PA issues across payer systems
- Collaborate to improve authorization success rates
Team Technical Leadership
- Act as escalation point and mentor for Integration Services Engineers
- Build team capabilities through knowledge sharing and documentation
Product Partnership and SOP Development
- Partner with Product Management to define scalable payer integration capabilities
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for repeatable delivery
Project Management & Integration Delivery
- Own end-to-end integration projects from discovery through go-live
- Manage timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder communication
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
- 5+ years in healthcare integration engineering with focus on payer connectivity
- Deep understanding of healthcare data standards (HL7 FHIR, HL7 v2, X12 EDI)
- Proven ability to manage external business relationships
- Strong project management skills coordinating multiple concurrent projects
- Experience with Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/Node.js
- Background in CI/CD, automated testing, and cloud platforms (AWS)
- Understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, and healthcare regulatory requirements
Preferred:
- Experience with payer organizations on technical integrations
- Knowledge of pharmacy benefit management (PBM) systems
- Background in mentoring less experienced engineers
- Experience with EMR/EHR integration patterns
- Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures
- Knowledge of healthcare interoperability initiatives (TEFCA, CMS)
Physical Requirements
- 95% Desk work
- Less than 5% travel to industry events and annual team onsite
Benefits
- Competitive compensation, with a base salary of $130,000 - $150,000 (Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience)
