Decom Engineering was born from a desire to create safer and more efficient solutions in the energy sector. The catalyst for its founding by current CEO Sean Conway and his father, an engineer, was the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. Witnessing the catastrophic oil spill, which resulted in over four million barrels of oil draining into the sea, they believed there had to be a better, faster way to cut and cap a well. This conviction led to the establishment of Decom Engineering in 2011 (though some sources state 2012). Harnessing Sean's business education and his father's engineering expertise, they immediately began the ambitious project of designing and building the innovative saw they envisioned. This development process would ultimately span eight years.

Simultaneously, Decom Engineering developed its Pipe Coating Removal (PCRM) technology, a solution that would become a cornerstone of their offerings. The company's journey included securing major investments from a private equity partner, which significantly propelled the development of their Chop Saw. This key product was launched to the market in mid-2021. From its headquarters in Aberdeen, United Kingdom, Decom Engineering has grown, establishing an engineering base in Cookstown and a facility in Belfast. The company manufactures specialized pipe cutting and pipe coating removal equipment for onshore, offshore, and subsea applications, serving the petroleum, construction, and nuclear industries. They pride themselves on delivering high-quality engineering and services, working closely with customers to provide bespoke equipment designed to solve their specific problems. Decom Engineering plays a critical role in reducing the carbon footprint and recycling essential raw materials within its operational industries. Recently, they opened a new facility in Aberdeen, Scotland, to facilitate the mobilization, training, and demonstration of their equipment for offshore oil and gas contractors and have secured work in the Gulf of Thailand. Their commitment to innovation continues with products like the C1-46T Chop Saw, designed to cut pipes from two to 46 inches.
