Overview
cFocus Software is seeking a Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Technical Lead / Subject-Matter Expert (SME) to provide advanced technical guidance and hands-on expertise supporting a federal agency’s CDM program. The Technical Lead/SME will oversee the deployment, integration, and optimization of CDM tools from the Approved Products List (APL), ensuring effective asset management, vulnerability management, and cybersecurity monitoring across hybrid environments. This position requires deep proficiency in CDM technologies, Elastic Stack, and data integration, along with a strong background in network security.This is a full-time position that may require on-site support at federal agency locations in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Some telework flexibility may be available depending on mission requirements. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or higher-level security clearance as required by the agency.
Responsibilities
The Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Technical Lead / SME shall perform duties that include, but are not limited to:- Lead the technical design, integration, and management of CDM tools across the Hardware Asset Management (HWAM), Software Asset Management (SWAM), and Vulnerability Management (VUL) categories of the CDM Program.
- Utilize tools listed on the CDM Approved Products List (APL) to support continuous monitoring and risk management activities.
- Oversee data ingestion, normalization, and correlation into the Elastic Stack and the CDM dashboard to ensure complete and accurate visibility across assets and vulnerabilities.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines and connectors between CDM tools, dashboards, and other cybersecurity systems.
- Collaborate with agency stakeholders and DHS/CISA representatives to ensure compliance with CDM program requirements and data reporting standards.
- Conduct performance tuning, configuration, and optimization of Elastic Stack components (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, and Beats) for CDM data visualization and analytics.
- Implement and maintain integrations for asset discovery, vulnerability scanning, and configuration management solutions within hybrid (on-prem and cloud) environments.
- Develop technical documentation, including SOPs, configuration baselines, and system diagrams for CDM environments.
- Support network security architecture and policy enforcement related to CDM data flows, ensuring integrity and confidentiality of transmitted data.
- Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and incident response for CDM-related systems and dashboards.
- Provide subject-matter expertise to agency teams on best practices for CDM tool deployment, operation, and integration.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and cybersecurity personnel on CDM technologies and Elastic Stack operations.
- Develop executive and technical reports summarizing CDM data trends, vulnerabilities, and compliance posture.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive proficiency in cybersecurity tools with a minimum of 5 years of experience utilizing tools listed on the CDM Program's Approved Products List (APL) in the Hardware and Software Asset Management and Vulnerability Management categories.
- Relevant experience with the Elastic Stack, CDM dashboard, and data integration processes.
- Robust background in network security, including architecture, monitoring, and data protection.
- CISSP certification.
- Demonstrated experience implementing or supporting CDM capabilities in large-scale federal environments.
- Strong knowledge of vulnerability management, asset inventory, and continuous monitoring practices.
- Experience integrating CDM tools into data pipelines and dashboards for visualization and reporting.
- Proven ability to analyze complex security data and develop actionable intelligence to improve cybersecurity posture.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DHS or other federal agencies in the implementation or operation of CDM programs.
- Hands-on experience with CDM APL tools such as Tenable, Qualys, Splunk, Archer, or ServiceNow.
- Proficiency with automation and scripting tools (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for data integration and reporting.
- Experience configuring Elastic Stack components in cloud or hybrid environments.
- Familiarity with federal cybersecurity frameworks including FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and OMB M-21-31.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Experience developing dashboards, data visualizations, and reports for CDM compliance tracking.
