Role Summary:
The Director, Scientific Communications is a pivotal leadership role within Cerevel, responsible for driving the strategic development and effective execution of an integrated Medical Capabilities strategy and Plan (iMCP). This role is essential in achieving program medical goals and overarching strategic objectives. A highly visible role in our organization, the Director, Scientific Communications will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and organizational leaders to ensure the prioritization and development of scientific communications tailored to the therapeutic areas. The Director, Scientific Communications is a critical position that contributes significantly to the company's mission of improving patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the scientific communications capabilities and becoming a subject matter expert of the assigned therapeutic areas
  • Responsible for building, developing, and managing a high-functioning team with a focus on fostering talent development and ensuring team members’ engagement
  • Lead the formulation and implementation of the integrated Medical Capabilities strategy and Plan (iMCP) that aligns with the program's medical objectives and the company's strategic goals
  • Play a leadership role in working with key cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of scientific communication efforts with overarching company objectives and strategies, while also driving efficiencies in the process
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional leaders across the organization, including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Research and Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial teams, to ensure seamless coordination and efficient execution of the therapeutic area iMCP
  • Partner closely with key stakeholders to develop tailored scientific communications for programs within their respective therapeutic areas. This may encompass the creation of scientific communication platforms, core slide decks, educational content for Medical Congresses, and support for advisory boards
  • Develop and oversee the execution of a comprehensive Strategic Publication Plan, ensuring timely and impactful dissemination of scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals and at medical conferences
  • Develop and implement strategies for independent medical education activities
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for collaboration with external partners in support of IME initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry guidelines related to IME activities
  • Manage external vendors and medical agencies assisting with scientific communications content planning and execution. Ensure the delivery of high-quality, fair-balanced, scientifically/clinically accurate medical communications deliverables in accordance with established timelines, compliance guidelines/policies, and budgets
  • Collect metrics and insights to inform internal strategy and resource prioritization. Utilize data to assess the impact of scientific communication efforts and continuously refine strategies for maximum effectiveness
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in professional scientific communications
  • Lead the budgeting process and oversee the budget for the therapeutic area Scientific Communications, collaborating with other functions within Medical Affairs to ensure that resources are allocated efficiently and aligned with strategic priorities

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in life sciences with a minimum of 6 years bio-pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs

Desired Qualifications

  • Substantial experience in scientific communications (publications and medical communications)
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Excellent project and team management skills, ensuring that deliverables are on time and within budget
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific and clinical data to key stakeholders
  • Ability to set priorities, deal with ambiguity and ability to be independent, multi-tasked and results-oriented with a hands-on attitude in a fast-paced and energetic environment

Education

  • M.S. in life sciences
