Clinical lead for primary care programme (England)

Sessional rate: £280

Temporary Contract:

We are seeking a qualified GP(s) to work with us for up to 4 sessions a week. Initial contract length of 24 months with the option to review at 12 months. 

Hours: Interested GPs should indicate the minimum and maximum weekly sessions they could contribute towards the role (up to 4 sessions a week). 

Location:Virtual location with annual travel requirement, including virtual and occasional in person meetings.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to help shape Cancer Research UK’s (CRUK) work with the primary care sector. This is an ideal opportunity for those with a passion for cancer who possess strong strategic thinking skills and are eager to collaborate with colleagues across the primary care sector.   

The successful applicant(s) will not be employed directly by CRUK so must be able to accept a contract from CRUK either as a sole trader or via a third party (such as their practice). 

We particularly encourage applications from candidates open to job-share arrangements. 

What will I be doing?

  • Leading the development of CRUK’s primary care cancer network, including chairing virtual and in person meetings along with growing network membership.  

  • Supporting the scoping and development of other projects and outputs aimed at primary care. 

  • Providing clinical advice on CRUK content, along with providing media support when necessary. 

What are you looking for?

Education/Qualification 

  • GMC Registered and currently practising as GP  

Experience 

  • Proven experience as principal or equivalent in general practice  

  • Experience of working in an extended primary care team, and ideally is already active in other primary care groups and communities  

  • A track record of developing ideas from concept through to implementation, delivering strategic projects and working through networks and groups 

Skills 

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills  

  • Experience developing stakeholder relationships and leading and developing groups 

  • Strategic mindset when contributing to projects, including generating and developing new ideas  

  • Ability to network and influence amongst peers  

  • Ability to assess educational need in primary care  

  • Facilitation and chairing skills  

Expertise

  • Knowledge of primary care and community services  

  • Knowledge of wider cancer agenda for primary care. 

  • Understanding of issues involved in working across primary/secondary interface
