Calvary Healthcare

Calvary Hospital is a non-profit healthcare institution specializing in hospice and palliative care, providing expert medical, emotional, and spiritual care to adult patients with advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses at multiple locations across New York City.

About Calvary Healthcare

Calvary Hospital is the nation's only fully accredited acute care specialty hospital exclusively dedicated to providing hospice and palliative care for adult patients with advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Founded in 1899 by a small group of Catholic widows known as the Women of Calvary, the organization began in two brownstone houses on Perry Street in Greenwich Village, New York, caring for destitute women with terminal diseases. Today, Calvary Hospital has grown into a renowned institution with campuses in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, serving patients throughout the greater New York area.

The hospital's mission centers on caring for the medical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families, following core principles of compassion, non-abandonment, dignity, and love. Calvary provides an extensive continuum of care including inpatient services, Calvary@Home (a certified home health agency and home hospice), pain management, nursing home hospice, and bereavement support programs. The organization is widely recognized as the world's leading expert in palliative care, with a family-centric approach that helps relieve stress and concerns for family members during difficult times. Calvary also operates the Palliative Care Institute, launched in 1985, for research and education in the field.
