However, half of all patients experience a missed or delayed diagnosis, and only 30% survive five years. If detected early, over 80% of patients would survive for ten years or more.

Our AI-driven platform is designed to identify cancer at the earliest possible stage, giving patients the best chance of survival. With over 500,000 cancer risk assessments conducted, more than 50,000 cancers detected across 50+ types, and 99% sensitivity in identifying cancer, C the Signs is transforming cancer care. Our platform supports 10 million patients and is trusted by over 11,000 healthcare professionals across primary care and beyond in the UK.

With the proven success and validated product in the UK market, we are very exciting expanding into the US market where our platform can empower the clinicians and patients in flighting cancers in the US healthcare systems.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Software Engineering to lead our cancer care platform development. Reporting to the CTO and working closely with product management and engineering peers, you will responsible for the entire software development life cycle for the respective product domains assigned. You will be driving for "flawless execution" in delivering valuable product to our customers in a fast pace and dynamic startup environment, and is not afraid of rolling up sleeves and diving in if needed, to push things forward.

Key Responsibilities

    • Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary engineering team (backend, frontend, DevOps, QA)

    • Own the software development lifecycle from architecture through release and monitoring

    • Collaborate with product, design, data, and clinical teams to deliver customer-centric features

    • Architect scalable, secure, and interoperable systems (FHIR, HL7, OAuth2, HIPAA compliance)

    • Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality benchmarks

    • Drive agile development methodologies and prioritize sprint planning

    • Oversee vendor and API integrations (e.g., EHRs, HIEs, third-party health platforms)
    • Champion and endorse using AI assisted development tools to empower the teams
    • Embrace new technology such as AI, and evaluate and adopt them for fit-for-purpose to enhance our platform capabilities

    • Manage technical debt, code reviews, and team KPIs
    • Own respective platform operation to ensure uninterrupted services, and quickly resolve any production issues to ensure customer satisfaction.
    • Report progress to executive leadership and contribute to strategic planning

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software development experience with a strong foundation in architecture and systems design

  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience, ideally in startup or high-growth environments

  • Proven ability to design and build complex backend systems

  • Fluency in one or more modern programming stacks. E.g., Node.js, Python, Go, or Java, with cloud experience (AWS, GCP)

  • Hands-on experience with data modeling, event-driven systems, and microservice architectures

  • Familiarity with FHIR, HL7, and healthcare data standards (strongly preferred)

  • Knowledge of HIPAA-compliant infrastructure and secure data handling

  • Passion for building products with purpose and scale

  • Experience with EHR integrations (HIEs, Epic, Cerner, athenahealth, etc.)

  • DevOps/SRE knowledge (CI/CD, Terraform, observability)

  • Prior work on digital health apps, DTx, or remote monitoring platforms

  • Experience working with serverless architecture or container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • BS/BA degrees in computer science or other engineering field
