Job Summary:
Blavity Inc. is looking for a Membership Growth & Operations Contractor to support the AfroTech Insider membership program on a part-time contract basis. This is a 1099 contractor role at $45/hour, 15 hours per week, for an initial six-month engagement.

This role is primarily execution focused. The AfroTech Insider team has a defined growth strategy and a clear set of operational and infrastructure projects that need to be built and maintained. The Contractor will own the day-to-day execution of those workstreams building, and maintaining conversion infrastructure, managing reporting systems, coordinating cross-functional project timelines, and running membership operations without requiring close supervision.

The right candidate has direct experience managing membership or subscription programs, is comfortable building operational systems from scratch, and can move quickly across multiple workstreams simultaneously. This role works closely with the AfroTech Insider program team and cross-functional partners in marketing, product, and operations.
This role will report directly to the VP of Content & Programming

Contractors will be responsible for providing their own equipment, including but not limited to laptop computers, cell phones, or any other electronic equipment required to perform their role.

Responsibilities:
Membership Acquisition & Conversion Infrastructure
  • Build and manage conversion pathways that move audiences from free and low-cost programming into paid annual membership, including coordinating with marketing partners on email nurture sequences and campaign timing
  • Implement and maintain UTM tracking and attribution setup across all membership registration links and acquisition touchpoints, so conversion data is accurate and actionable
  • Ensure public-facing membership pages clearly communicate program tiers, pricing, and the path to joining, flag gaps, and coordinate updates with the relevant team
  • Track attendance and conversion data across paid and free programming touchpoints; produce monthly reports that show what’s working and where the funnel is losing people
Reporting, KPIs & Tracking Systems
  • Build and maintain a membership KPI dashboard tracking enrollment by channel, churn, event engagement, and funnel conversion rates on a weekly and monthly cadence
  • Coordinate with the operations team to establish the data connections needed to attribute programming attendance to downstream membership and ticket purchases
  • Run a monthly review of the Insider member service inbox and produce a response time report against program service standards
  • Maintain the AfroTech Insider KPI tracker on a weekly basis, keeping actuals current and flagging performance gaps to the program lead
Partnership & Corporate Membership Operations
  • Maintain a live tracker of corporate membership partnership deals in the pipeline, coordinating with the sales team to capture seat counts, deal status, and expected close timelines
  • Build and distribute a corporate partner communication kit that makes it easy for partner organizations to onboard their employees into the membership program
  • Track corporate membership renewal activity; prepare member engagement data summaries that support the sales team’s renewal conversations
Cross-Functional Project Management
  • Manage project timelines for membership-related technology and platform builds, coordinating with the product team to keep deliverables on schedule and flag risks early
  • Track event attendance per session (segmented by member vs. non-member) and maintain the speaker pipeline tracker for recurring programming
  • Keep cross-functional deliverables on track across marketing, product, and operations partners; surface blockers before they delay launches

Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Operations, or a related field; equivalent professional experience accepted
Required Experience:
  • 3–5+ years managing membership programs, subscription businesses, or community-driven initiatives including direct ownership of operations, not just supporting them
  • Demonstrated experience building conversion funnels, implementing UTM tracking, and coordinating email nurture campaigns end-to-end
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to pull, interpret, and present membership and conversion data to senior leadership independently
  • Proven project management ability across multiple simultaneous workstreams involving cross-functional stakeholders in marketing, product, and operations
  • Self-directed with a track record of executing against a defined project list without requiring day-to-day oversight
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in media, events, or tech-adjacent industries with a membership or community component
  • Background building tracking and reporting infrastructure from the ground up attribution modeling, funnel analytics, or dashboard builds
  • Familiarity with CRM and membership management platforms
  • Experience working closely with or in support of a senior executive function on strategic program execution
Technologies:
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Asana (or comparable project management tool), and data reporting tools (Looker, Google Data Studio, Airtable, or similar)
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and basic analytics/UTM tooling required
  • Familiarity with CRM or membership management platforms a strong plus
Additional Qualifications:
  • Independent, entrepreneurial self-starter who is comfortable taking on a high level of responsibility in an ambiguous environment
• Inclined to document their work builds SOPs, process notes, and handoff documentation as a standard habit, not
an afterthought
• High-energy, company-first, positive attitude; must be motivated to work hard in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills; comfortable presenting data and updates to senior leadership and coordinating across teams
• Detail-oriented with a systems mindset identifies the process behind the task before diving in
• A genuine appreciation for Black culture, community-driven work, and the AfroTech mission

Details
  • This is a fully remote, U.S.-based contract role with occasional travel required for events.
  • Time Zone Requirement: Must be able to work 100% in alignment to Pacific Time Zone
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Approximately 15 hours per week.
  • Compensation: $45 per hour.
