Founded originally as the Centinela Valley Drug Abuse Coalition, BHS has grown from a single community initiative into one of the region's most comprehensive behavioral health providers.

The organization operates 24 facilities across Southern California, including 14 recovery centers, 6 health centers, 3 community services locations, and 1 mobile health unit. BHS serves communities throughout Los Angeles County with facilities in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Gardena, Hawthorne, Torrance, San Pedro, Wilmington, Hollywood, Pomona, Carson, and East Los Angeles. Since its founding, BHS has served over 300,000 individuals and families.

BHS provides a full continuum of care including withdrawal management, residential inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, mental health services, primary healthcare through its FQHC network, alcohol and drug prevention programs, youth services, DUI programs, housing navigation, family preservation, and community engagement services. The organization is licensed and certified by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), accredited by CARF International, and funded in part by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and HRSA as a Federally Qualified Health Center.
