About BharatPe

BharatPe is an Indian fintech company that provides digital payment and financial services to small merchants and grocery stores. Founded in 2018 by Ashneer Grover, Shashvat Nakrani, and Bhavik Koladiya, BharatPe was established with the vision of making financial inclusion a reality for Indian merchants. The company is committed to empowering the over 63 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India, including offline merchants and kirana store owners, with a range of fintech products specifically designed to address their needs. Today, BharatPe offers a suite of simple, easy-to-use, and secure fintech products, including payments and business loans, to its merchant partners. It has an extensive network of 10 million merchants across over 400 cities in the country.

BharatPe launched India's first UPI interoperable QR code in 2018, which was also the first zero MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) payment acceptance service. This allowed merchants to accept payments from various UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm through a single QR code. This innovation significantly contributed to driving QR payment acceptance among the merchant community, bringing millions of India's offline merchants into the digital economy. In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, BharatPe launched India's only zero MDR card acceptance terminals, BharatSwipe. The company is a leader in UPI offline transactions. Beyond payments, BharatPe facilitates loans to offline merchants in partnership with NBFCs and also offers consumer fintech products like postpe, a Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) service launched in October 2021. Postpe allows for universal usage on QR, card, and online, and is not limited to big-ticket purchases. In June 2021, BharatPe acquired PAYBACK India, the country's largest multi-brand loyalty program. In the same month, it received in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India to establish a Small Finance Bank in partnership with Centrum Financial Services Limited.
