We are looking for a Technical Sales Representative to join our Chemetall team.

This role requires to travel 50-60% of the time.

BASF/Chemetall, is the Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, and a leading supplier of applied surface treatments worldwide. At BASF/Chemetall, we develop and manufacture tailor-made technology and system solutions for applied surface technology. Our products protect metals from corrosion, facilitate forming and treatment, prepare parts optimally for the painting process and ensure excellent coating adhesion. Our technologies and products are used in a variety of industries and end markets such as automotive, aerospace, aluminum finishing and metal forming.

The chemical treatment of metal surfaces is BASF/Chemetall core competence. The focus of our worldwide activities is on the development and implementation of customized technology and system solutions for surface treatment.

As a Technical Sales Representative you represent the Company by contacting established and prospective customers in an assigned territory for the purpose of selling Chemetall surface treatment chemicals. This individual will provide complete sales and service which ensures safe quality product performance while maximizing profitability within their assigned territory.

As a Technical Sales Representative (ECT-Chemetall), you create chemistry by...

  • Understanding the business activities of accounts in the territory, applying customer’s knowledge to tailor sales presentations and proposals.
  • Managing territory profitability, reviewing territory compensation margins and providing margin improvement.
  • Assuring that technology provided within the territory strengthens the company’s competitive position.
  • Planning itinerary of calls to allocate time effectively; calling on established and prospective customers, determining their needs, and selling appropriate products to markets. Providing pricing quotes price and delivery policy, subject to approval.
  • Attaining sales plan by securing new customers, increasing sales and renewing orders.
  • Providing information on new products, methods, techniques and other general information such as safety and disposal.Training customers and insuring proper and safe use of our materials.
  • Maintaining records of the activities in the territory, and reporting competitive activities that impact sales in the territory.Preparing and submitting call reports, exception reports, and in-plant service reports.
  • Improving technical knowledge of Chemetall materials through self-study and participation in professional societies.
  • Participating in team selling activities cooperating with other TSR’s, technical support personnel and engineers.
  • Requesting samples according to policy.
  • Exercising proper caution in handling company materials and equipment.

If you...

  • Hold a BS Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering, or Business.
  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of relatable experience.
  • Have B2B/outside industrial sales experience, in specialty chemical sales (surface treatment-paint pretreatments, wastewater treatments, metalworking fluids, etc.) preferred.
  • Are able to make sales presentations and follow up with written proposals and manage customer contracts.
  • Can manage customer accounts within your assigned territory and possess a strong customer acquisition mentality for new customer acquisition and continuous up-/cross-selling opportunities.
  • Have technical consulting capabilities regarding products and processes, and a strong business acumen.
  • Are able to travel up to 50-60%, with occasional overnight travel within your territory.
  • Have a valid’ s driver's license.

Pay transparency

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $80,000 - $90,000. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
