The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for Senior Technical Specialist to provide excellent technical support to our end users, world-wide distributor base, and Avantor associates including product support, recommendations and dealing with product concerns.

The Senior Technical Specialist serves as a subject matter expert in chromatography.

This role will either be a hybrid position based out of our Hichrom, Reading site or full remote work will be supported!

The ideal candidate will have great presentation & outstanding communication skills along with passion for Chromatography.

The team

The Senior Technical Specialist will be part of a Team of 6, with exposure to Product Management, Product Portfolio, Production, R&D & Customer Services.

What we’re looking for

  • Education: Bachelor’s in chemistry or related field is required
  • Experience: 5 years of relevant experience
  • Strong technical competence, excellent theoretical and practical experience in all areas of reversed phase HPLC plus ideally some knowledge of other areas of chromatography (such as GPC, Chiral, Affinity, Ion Chromatography, GC, TLC etc).
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects and prioritise accordingly.
  • Good customer relationship building skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Highly motivated and the ability to influence others.
  • A team player able to work towards both personal and company goals and objectives.
  • Collaboration tool: (SAP, & Qlikview as may be required).
  • Competent in software packages - Excel, Outlook, Office 365

How you will thrive and create an impact

  • Responding to all customer technical queries via e-mail and telephone on a daily basis, offering technical support, recommendations and advice in all areas of chromatography including associated follow up in a timely manner.
  • Taking the lead to follow up and close out enquiries.
  • Keep abreast of new developments from our own manufacturing and R&D facilities as well as our suppliers and advising customers on these products as required.
  • Attending relevant training sessions as required to increase technical and product knowledge.
  • Assisting with the writing, proofing and production of technical literature, flyers and catalogues as required.
  • Meeting customers both at a technical and a sales level. Proactively arrange meetings when key projects arise, involving relevant VWR/Avantor Account Managers and SASSs and specialists as appropriate.
  • Deliver and support on-site and off-site technical seminars, conference presentations, webinars and exhibitions etc. Actively engage customers and following up as required.
  • Drive and initiate relevant project work, providing regular updates on progress to the team and wider as appropriate.
  • Competently use business systems eg SAP, C4C, QLICKVIEW etc.
  • Having a good understanding of the objectives of the business and how the department and the role fits into the overall strategy.
  • Develop an in depth knowledge of competitor products and market trends; sharing regular summaries for areas of responsibility.
  • A good knowledge of business processes relating to the role across the wider organisation eg portfolio management, marketing, identifying key contacts in other countries to help enable / drive business.
  • As required, guide and mentor junior members of the team offering support, training and coaching on all aspects of the technical support, complaints resolution processes and the wider organisation.
  • The ability to balance multiple projects, prioritising as required.
