The role:

We are looking for a knowledgeable and trained Herbalist or Nutritionist, who is passionate about health and wellness and has industry experience to join our growing team! You will work directly with our R&D and Compliance Manager on new product development, herbal formulation, clinical research, claim substantiation, educational content, and DSHEA, FDA, and FTC compliance regulations. If you are excited about helping formulate innovative and potent herbal products and educating our customers about herbalism, keep reading! This role will be part of our Operations team.

Responsibilities:

R&D and New Product Development Support:

  • Support development and formulation of products in line with business development and market opportunities in line with the product roadmap
  • Proactively recommend business opportunities based on market trends, R&D innovations, and customer needs
  • Help oversee the full new product development process including but not limited to product roadmap, GTM lead times, sampling rounds and formulation approvals, and searching for vendors
  • Support product brief creation for Marketing and Ops hand off, including supporting research articles on claims, the herbs chosen, and founding content structure for blogs and future Marketing materia
  • Reviewing and summarizing product feedback from customers
  • Help organize questionnaires and team reviews for NPD
  • Support with product clinical trials
  • Customer survey creation and results summarization and findings
  • Teach retailer and partnership trainings and workshops

Operations Support:

  • Help ensure complete documentation on raw materials, formulations, process parameter, QC and 3rd party tests, and all labeling requirements
  • Verification of cGMP certification, shelf life of new ingredients, ingredient substitution, and production standards of new and current co-manufacturers
  • Support quality issues by providing R&D expertise: root-cause analysis and rework / recuperation recommendations
  • Maintain and apply for new product certifications in line with company initiatives (non-gmo, organic, B-corp, etc.)

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Help ensure and sign off on all labeling of products complies with FDA standards and NPN requirements
  • Work with Copywriter and Compliance manager to closely to ensure all product claims satisfy Marketing needs and key RTBs while balancing language to meet FDA minimums

Content Development / Review:

  • Write educational research-based content for our blog (and possibly other outlets) on health and herbalism topics
  • Support content creation team on content creation and overall strategy
  • Create recipes based on current trends for new and existing products
  • Review marketing materials and blog content for herbal accuracy and DSHEA compliance
  • Create training materials and hold online training sessions for onboarding new retail customers.

Requirements

Ideal candidate:

  • Formal schooling, training, and certifications in herbalism, nutrition, or other alternative health modalities (2+ years)
  • Experience in herbal product development and formulation
  • Experience working for an dietary supplement manufacturer or brand
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, for working with teams internally, co-manufacturer communication, and compliant blog writing for customers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, timeline-focused team environment
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite or related software

Bonus points:

  • Previous experience with dietary supplement regulatory compliance
  • Registered herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild
  • Experience at a high-growth, fast-paced startup
  • Entrepreneurial mindset

Time and Location:

The role is full-time and fully remote. For this position you must be available during a portion of our core hours between 9am - 5pm ET with some flexibility depending on your preference/time zone. While some flexibility will be allowed, this role will work closely in collaboration with our R&D Manager and other team members who work primarily during those hours.
